DOHA: The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) led by noted Qatar-based Islamic scholar Dr Yousuf Al Qaradawi said yesterday that with the accession of a new Pope at the Vatican, the Union would like to reopen channels of communication with the supreme leader of the world’s Catholics.

“The Union would like to announce that its freezing of communication with the Pope of the Vatican has ended. The Union’s earlier decision was due to the previous Pope’s stance on Islam. Now, however, we would like to open a new page with the new Pope,” said a statement issued by the Union yesterday.

“IUMS would like to congratulate Pope Francis for this distinguished post, and wish him success in carrying out a significant role in re-establishing the values of tolerance and peace in the world, and to contribute to security, shelter and relief in disaster areas where criminals and tyrants have been terrorizing the masses,” added the statement.

The Union stressed the need for a serious dialogue between representatives of different religions in “today’s turbulent world.”

“This dialogue would contribute positively towards the values of faith, tolerance, cooperation for the sake of good, and security and peace on all levels,” said the statement. “Let us all work together towards an integrative system of moral values, and stand together against injustice, corruption, and violation of human dignity everywhere. Let us stand together with the legitimate rights of the people of Palestine, Syria, and elsewhere. Let us reject together atheism, immorality, abortion, and degradation of family values,” it added.

I noticed that they sat the Muslims and Jews together today at the Installation Mass.

Well, they certainly agree on the place of women as official clerics, also gay sex.

Let us all work together towards an integrative system of moral values

I'm sure they will integrate this into the system:

There is no salvation by anyone else, for there is no other name (Jesus) under heaven given among people by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

When Muslims sit with anyone, the anyone is done. Isalm is pure evil. There are no moderate islams. Never have been. Ever.

“IUMS would like to congratulate Pope Francis for this distinguished post, and wish him success in carrying out a significant role in re-establishing the values of tolerance and peace in the world..."

I was going to mention taqiyya, but upon re-reading that statement I think it was styled as a "good luck with that global tolerance and peace stuff" jab.

The next time I get to Rome I’ll have to be more observant. I remember holy cards, rosaries, and other religious objects in the Vatican gift shops, but don’t remember the ties. Maybe they would make nice gifts.
