'Love Wins' Author Rob Bell Supports Gay Marriage

Rob Bell, the former "rock star" pastor of Michigan's Mars Hill Bible Church, has come out in support of same-sex marriage.

Speaking during a forum at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral Monday, Bell said the ship of traditional marriage "has sailed."

"Yes, I am for marriage. I am for fidelity. I am for love, whether it's a man and woman, a woman and a woman, a man and a man," he said. "I think this is the world we are living in and we need to affirm people wherever they are." Listen to the full audio of Bell's comments here.

Bell suggested that instead of transforming the world, a "ghettoized, Evangelical subculture" has instead turned people away from Christ.

"I think that when you're in a part of a subculture that is dying, you make a lot more noise because it's very painful. You sort of die or you adapt. And if you adapt, it means you have to come face to face with some of the ways we've talked about God, which don't actually shape people into more loving, compassionate people," he reasoned.

"We have supported policies and ways of viewing the world that are actually destructive. And we've done it in the name of God and we need to repent," he said.

It's not the first time Bell has made waves in evangelical Christian circles. In 2011, Bell caused controversy with his book Love Wins, in which he challenged traditional Christian views of Heaven and Hell.

This fellow wrote a book challenging 'traditional' views of heaven and hell. Basically, as I understand it he doubts both as supernatural constructs and holds we send ourselves to either place here by virtue of our choices in this life not the life hereafter. Bell was basically fired from his 'megachurch' in Grand Rapids for that heresy and has 'evolved' further. I suspect Mr. Bell may have some unreconciled conflicts about his own sexuality and we may find him departing from his closet in the near future. For believers he meets the criterion of a false prophet for the rest of us he meets the criterion for a weasel and a hypocrite.

We have twisted the Bible to use it for destructive ends? Tell me, you K-Mart excuse for a Christian, how exactly can God’s words on homosexual sex be ‘reinterpreted’?
