The Associated Press is standing by its report that Sen. Rand Paul intended to back a path to citizenship in his speech Tuesday to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, despite the fact that he did not do so, and despite claims from advisers that the AP's story is wrong.

...

The AP obtained an advance copy of Sen. Paul’s remarks on Monday and reported that he would be "endorsing a pathway to citizenship for the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants." That report led to headlines across news outlets ranging from Fox News to The Washington Post to the Huffington Post claiming that Sen. Paul had endorsed "a pathway to citizenship."

But in a subsequent statement, Paul's office said the AP story was incorrect

“Certainly sounds like amnesty”

There is no path to citizenship. And if the illegals don’t become citizens they can’t vote.

His plan is only meant to turn the illegals into taxpayers. Right now they are free loaders who are gaming the system with no risk of getting caught or of being sent home.

Yes, they can and do vote in many municipalities, but not for president. Look it up.

Reagan’s biggest mistake was falling for the amnesty trap in 1986. Too many Republicans are doing the same thing, Democrats have no plans to secure the border. I like Rand, and of the people I think will run in ‘16 he’s the one I’m most likely to vote for, but as long as dems have the senate, the house, or the presidency there will be no attempt to secure the border.

With that said, I have a feeling by time 2016 rolls around illegal immigration will be the least of our concerns.

Definition of AMNESTY

: the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals

You seem to be confused about the definition of Amnesty as if it has to include citizenship.

It doesn't.

All it has to do, is make them legal, and "forgive" or forget all the illegal acts they have committed, including crossing the border illegally.

If you are going to argue a point, argue from correct definitions, otherwise, you are misleading people.

They’ll be “regularized” in every respect. Then in the name of “fairness” they will be made citizens. It is the Fabian way. Brick by brick.

“My plan will not grant amnesty or move anyone to the front of the line” says Paul. Yet they ARE at the front of the line! They are here!

Don’t make me laugh.

Secure the border; deport illegal aliens on contact with police; stop enticing illegal aliens: no driver license, no college tuition, nothing whatsoever; prosecute employers.

It’s really pretty damn simple. What is wrong with these politicians?

Look, as long as they are here they should pay taxes. Right now they’re just free loading.

And if Rand’s plan goes into effect, they will all be registered but will not become citizens.

So, if a few years down the road you decide to begin deportation proceeding you will know exactly where to find them. It’s a brilliant plan the more I think about it.

Here is the problem in a nutshell and I defy anyone to prove me incorrect.

“Conservatives and those who claim to be are scared poopless. They are waking up to the reality that the GOP has been liberal for several years and they are going through the ‘grief stages’. Currently most are still in denial but some are in the bargaining stage.

They think there is some double secret plan that will emerge and slay the liberal dragon. They, like Fox Mulder, want to ‘believe’. But to turn a phrase on Reagan, “They believe many things that just aren’t so”.

Reality” The GOP and people like Rand Paul ARE the problem. They stab us in the back, piss on our leg and tell us it’s raining. And the saddest thing I see is Conservatives acting like the blacks on the Democrat plantation.

People, have some freaking self respect!

So when Rands brilliant plan results in your daughter raped by a tak paying illegal that should have been deported, and your wife is killed by a taxpaying illegal who should have been deported, you will naturally be good with that, correct?

Why wouldn’t the AP stand by it? They will suffer no consequences as a result, and the misrepresentation furthers their ends. Of course they stand by it.

In effect, Rand Paul believes his own press.

This often happens when someone is too successful too fast. He needs to regain his sense and soon.

“should have been deported”

Nobody is being deported at the moment. So, in that regard, nothing will change. It’s unrealistic to think that a plan that includes deportations will pass in the democrat controlled senate.

You have to look at all the alternatives. The other plans that are being discussed in the house and in the senate will turn at least 20 million illegals into voting citizens overnight.

There is no path to citizenship. And if the illegals don’t become citizens they can’t vote.

The other glaring problem with any loosening of the standards for staying here is that you KNOW the hispanic and immigrants rights groups will immediately file suit with one friendly court after another until some judge declares that we don't have 'second class persons' in this country.

Making them citizens will then become the next 'gay marriage'-like cultural crusade.

Political pressure will be irresistible and it WILL happen.

Lawbreakers cannot be rewarded. And although thats exactly what will end up happening here it will have to do so without my support.

I note you did not answer my question. Instead you, like so many before you diverted the issue. Here’s the facts:

We have a path to citizenship now. It is a good one. People use it every day from all over the world.

Illegal has a clear definition. When one engages in illegal acts, one is a criminal. Regardless of age or bleeding heart liberalism/feelgood forum posts.

The GOP is supposed to be the opposition to Dem liberalism, not act as the ‘lesser evil’ option so people can ‘feel good’ saying that ‘we got some of what we wanted’.

Incrimental approaches work. Ask the Sierra Club.

You either accept criminal ‘citizens’ and the GOP playing Kabuki theater games to get to the end result of illegals here under feel good bullXhit premises, or you do not.

You believe in a functioning border or you do not.

You want the rule of law or you do not.

Period.

That's the definition of Amnesty in anyone's book, whether or not he grants them citizenship now, or in the future.

Not everyone of course, as these threads reveal, but it sure meets my description.

If the don't have to go home,
What Difference Does it Make?

“Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.”

Sounds like 12 million more lower wage earners who will get earned income and child tax credits and get more back than they contribute.

And the 12 million undocumented workers equates to at least 30 million illegals when you factor in the children and pregnant wives and/or girlfriends who are not workers.

You won’t find anything about a path to citizenship or amnesty in it.

Does it mention anything about any of them being deported? Didn’t think so, in fact he does say we will not round them up and deport.

Citizens can stay here forever.
Illegals will not be deported.

Yep big difference.

Totally true, and anyone who tries to put that "front of the line" or " back of the line" nonsense over on the American people shouldn't be believed on anything.

The line for immigration is in the home countries of the immigrants, not in the USA. All this talk of "the line" has become as big a decption and ruse as the claim that these schemes aren't amnesty.

And Rand is on Hannity lying about "the line" as I type. He's now moved the normal line into the US. Bet all those folks in line in their home nations feel foolish.
