Now Obama targets your FedEx, UPS packages

The Obama administration is demanding the nation’s two biggest shipping companies police the contents of Americans’ sealed packages, and a FedEx spokesman is warning that the move “has the potential to threaten the privacy of all customers that send or receive packages.”

FedEx and UPS are in the Justice Department’s cross-hairs for not flagging shipments of illegally prescribed drugs the companies say they had no way of knowing were in their possession.

Criminal charges could be coming against the carriers, even though the government has not alleged any deliberate wrongdoing by the companies.

FedEx spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald said his company has a 40-year history of actively assisting the government crackdown on any criminal conduct, but he told WND this probe was very different from the start.

“What is unusual and really disturbing is it became clear to us along the way that FedEx was being targeted for some level criminal activity as it relates to these medicines that are being shipped from pharmacies, and we find it to be completely absurd because it’s really not our role,” Fitzgerald said. “We have no way of knowing what is legal and not within the packages that we’re picking up and delivering in this situation.”

“At the heart of the investigation are sealed packages that are being sent by, as far as we can tell, licensed pharmacies. These are medicines with legal prescriptions written by licensed physicians. So it’s difficult for us to understand where we would have some role in this. We are a transportation company that picks up and delivers close to 10 million packages every day. They are sealed packages, so we have no way of knowing specifically what’s inside and we have no interest in violating the privacy rights of our customers,” Fitzgerald said.

A government that exempts itself from the rule-of-law has outlived its reason-for-being.

I wonder if the real reason for this nonsense is to slow down the works so that people come back to the USPS.

What happened to that vaunted "Right to Privacy" all them liberals have been yammering about and used as a bludgeon to enforce abortion on demand?

Now Obama wants to know what is in my packages? He wants to know all the book titles I am reading and all the clothes I am wearing?

And, what about doctor-patient privilege? ObamaScare is kissing that goodbye.

You could be correct, in addition to the fact that FedEx is non-union. We no longer use UPS because they pulled financial support from the Boy Scouts because of their current position on denying membership to gay boys and gay leaders.

At least FedEx knows where all their packages and letters are at any time and the Government can’t keep track of anything.

So if they take away FedEx, guess we won’t ship or mail anything at all.

Ummm, they are also targeting UPS to which is union... The Feds are the one that has kept FDX non-union as they continually rule that FDX is not subject to the National Labor Relations Act, while UPS is, and instead governed by the Railway Labor Act, which UPS is not.

“I wonder if the real reason for this nonsense is to slow down the works.”

I fixed your post. Anything that slows down the economy and creates dependency is what this guy is about.

If you look at this guy’s legacy through the lens of ‘retribution’, then everything makes sense. Start with sending Churchill’s bust back, and move on from there. There’s a piece in the editorial section of the WSJ about our new Labor secretary that is particularly revealing.

Never mind ‘redistribution’, just ‘retribution’. The USA must revert to the mean, or worse, for its sins. It’s gains, ill gotten. This is his legacy. You thought Carter went nutter when he left the Presidency, what until you see the antics of this guy. He’s going to make Jesse Jackson look like Mother Theresa.

Here’s yet another way you can look at it - federal debt is a form of white enslavement. As long as blacks especially, but minorities in particular, benefit from it, the plan works. The war on business is real, but it isn’t a war on business, it’s a war on white people.

This is why the GOP is having such a tough time with this - they don’t have the race card, and even if they played it, the media would laugh them out of the building.

It’s why conservatism is working at the state level, but not at the federal level. ‘Republicans are White Devils’ was the theme of the last two election cycles. We nominated the poster child for that in Mitt Romney. The Godfather’s guy wouldn’t have got the attention he did had this not been very readily understood within the GOP.

Now we have Dr. Ben Carson. The GOP is looking for the ‘Great Colored Hope’.

Given the amount of business FedEx gives the USPS anything that hurts FedEx also hurts USPS.

I"d imagine it has to do with some lawyer who thinks common carriers can somehow open up every package and test the contents.

This is why it is important that lawyers be required to have real jobs from time to time ~

Speaking of the USPS..they are not mentioned..Everytime I mail a sealed package, the clerk accepts at face value. Why are they different than other shippers?

I thought the whole point of being labeled a common carrier was legal protection against this sort of stuff?

USPS is losing money because of their pension and retiree health obligations coupled with a massive decline in first class mail. They cannot possibly make it up in small package volume particularly from this niche market.
