ATK is one company that won a contract with the Department of Homeland Security to provide 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammunition in 2012.

Last Friday, New Jersey Rep. Leonard Lance (R – 7th District) told constituents that Janet Napolitano must explain to Congress why DHS has purchased 1.6 billion bullets and 2700 armored vehicles for domestic use. The purchase of thousands of fully automatic rifles for he DHS should also be explained.

Why do they need 1.6 billion bullets?

Because their people are really, really bad shots.

good stuff...

problem i have is it seems to be *mis-directed* to the 2700 vehicles being for the Marines...*only 16-32* are being officially designated for domestic enFORCEment...

ya know, those Marines that have been fighting in 2 landlocked countries for a decade, and are drawing DOWN forces...

and the treasury is BROKE...

so, maybe the Marines are buyin them just to sell em at firesale prices to janet ???

if a rep is askin the question, then the info loop is still squishy, and janet will have to concrete it one way or the other now...???

Squishy...Now that is about as accurate as you can get these days on this issue!!! Kudos!!!

I guess all we can do is hope someone gets to the bottom of this in a timely manner...Otherwise, we all know the potential dissagreement, when and if, these efforts by the DHS are fully implemented...

Not a senario I want to have happen...

Justification for the purchase of the vehicles and weaponry, ammo, etc., ALL should have been addressed PRIOR to placing ANY ORDERS. Congress is SUPPOSED to control the purse strings and already know what the initial justification was (and believed it to be “OK”). Like typical politicians, make the purchase and then worry where the funding comes from. The only way to resolve this monumental problem will be to stop payment for ANY OF IT and we all know congress doesn’t have the gall to do that.

Exactly what I was thinking. The government has several places(or used to)to make military ammo. The military uses full metal jacket small arms ammunition as precribed in long standing treaty, killing not being the primary consideration, that being incapacitation, in most combat, along with penetration of vehicles and multiple targets.
On the other hand, I have been told this agency is ordering up billions of rounds of expanding ammunition.Ammunition designed for faster killing, less overpenetration of targets. There is also no domestic need for armored vehicles. This crap is being bought to be used against the citizens of the United States. What part of Homeland Security do we not understand? The very name of this group implies domestic enforcement, I can hope that whatever scenario “they” think they need this hardware for doesn’t develop..This issue needs to be a priority right now, even more so than other scandals such as Benghazi. Why is funding even available for this?

I should have said “domestic enforcement on a scale unnecessary to this agency”

"If non military employees do not have to take an oath defending the Constitution, then it is obvious why Napalitano is buying armored vehicles and billions of rounds of ammunition. Her minions are not required to defend the 2nd Amendment."

Grow unemployment and there is your desperate civilian Army Obama has so glowingly talked about.

You know the one...civilian Army that will be stronger and better equiped than the current regular, true military.

It's the 1930's again.

Gov't buys up the guns and ammo, confiscate the ones that they can get (for Civilian Army) and there you have it: 1984 AND the Caliphate.

I do not own a tin foil hat but there has to be some seriously bad actors behind this because no one is talking, no one is attempting to do anything to stop this.
There must be an aweful lot of horseheads being placed in peoples bedsto cause this much of a scare.
Keep your powered dry, and teach your youth about true freedom.

Well they can't spend it if it isn't in the budget so the House should already know all there is to know, right?
