A SWAT team in upstate New York is being mocked as an example of the difference between military and police training after an officer was captured peering through a backwards sight on his combat rifle.
As users on the military Reddit were quick to point out when the image was posted, the reverse sight makes it effectively useless.
Users mocked the SWAT officers training and some went so far as to question the motives of some of the men serving in local law enforcement.

In any event, launching a rifled slug or a 3" buckshot load off the hood without having control of the fore end would provide a strong incentive to not do it again.
There is another picture from the same incident floating about that shows the guy with the camo and copious tactical gear putting his trigger finger dang near up on top of his shotgun's receiver; I can only assume that to be another modern technique taught only to those whom government has elevated over peons such as myself.

Actually, if you look closely there is no charging handle on the bolt of the shotgun so I think it’s a pump action. Maybe he thinks its a single shot, ‘cause he’s not going to get a second round off in a timely manner with both hands on the butt stock. (but then, I’m not a trained professional like that fellow)
He’s Protecting and Serving, of course. His personal bullets tearing through the flesh of various and assorted New York residents are the only things keeping us from descending into tyranny, terror and chaos. So let’s be sure to salute him each time he shoots another citizen.
Yeah, some cops aren't exactly 'the sharpest knife in the drawer'. Case in point the Chicago PD.
In Chicago all cops have to buy their own duty weapon (which is good IMO). And there's a list of approved manufacturers that cops can choose from along with approved calibers: 9mm, 357Sig, 40S&W & iirc 45ACP. But this is where is gets ... 'interesting' (dumb).Now I'm far from a Cop Basher. I wanted to be a Chi Cop when I was in HS and had many friends on the CPD over my time. And I listen to CPD Radio calls every day, like right now. But today, I wouldn't do their job for $250K a year with the crap they have to put up with and the absolute JUNK they have to work with. Not to mention they're undermanned by at least 3,000 Cops today. Some cops say they need 5,000 more.Rookies -- from graduating the Academy to 1 year of service *may* buy and use a Glock 9mm for their duty weapon. However after that time Glocks of any caliber are FORBIDDEN for all cops, period, no exception. And that ex-Rookie must now dump another $600 min on a new duty weapon and put that Glock 9mm back in the 'dresser drawer' as his personal / off-duty weapon (or trade it in or sell it, most don't).
The Reason for Glock Ban -- a 'few' years ago a CPD Commander shot himself in the leg with his Glock. Natch, the Commander blamed the Glock for the ... 'accidental discharge' (LOL) and had the big brass ban all Glocks as duty weapons. But again, not for Rookies, only 'veteran' cops.
Now if Glocks are so unsafe why would they be allowed at all? Are the lives of Rookie cops worth less than 'veterans'? If not why can they use Glocks but then must sh*t-can them at one year. It makes zero sense.

Really nothing wrong with that pose. In ranks inspection of arms often requires the inspector to look down the barrel to check too see if it is clean. But, he only does this after the person holding the weapon has performed a clearing of the weapon. Normally the inspector takes the weapon in hand and double checks the weapon to see if it is cleared at the bolt before he starts looking down barrels etc.

SWAT doesn't really need gun training anymore to deal with us pesky Americans. As the Dorner incident showed, they can simply burn the building down if actually engaging a perp is too scary for them. The gear we buy them is mainly to look cool and intimidate.
Who cares if others might be inside the building they burn? Officer safety is #1 and the media will keep it quiet to avoid riots.
I don't believe he's realized anything at that point.
I have the same Eotech sight, so I just had to check to see what you could see through it backwards. Unless you are totally high on adrenaline or something else, you are going to notice very diminished light transmission.
No qualified marksman would ever slap optics on their weapon and not zero them.
Makes me suspect these boys have never played with their toys before.

Ol’ cynical me says that either some ‘higher up’ in the Dept or Union ‘Chain of Command’ had stock in another Company or, better yet, the Ammo required.
Kind of like the ‘old days’ when the Col would retire FRI afternoon and arrive Mon AM in the role of the GS job/position he had ‘created’ and written the specs for.
We stopped the Military from ‘unfairly’ doing that, shouldn’t we be stopping Pols from stepping into Lobbying or other jobs related to bills they write and act on?

I think the guy holding the rifle is using his thumbnail to reflect light up the barrel. That was how we did it when checking for dirt.

Probably some but not enough to notice. The Eotech is a short range “tactical” sight. It has no magnification so the range is limited to, maybe, 200 yards. What the Eotech does is give you very fast target acquisition and a laser like red dot on the target seen through the scope. Of course there is no actual red dot for the target to see and nothing shows on the front of the Eotech scope. While I’m sure the zero is affected some I don’t notice a difference when the Eotech is put back on the rail in the same position. Using the scope for targets 100 yards or less feels like cheating.
Yikes! Then hopefully he’s no longer SWAT but I wouldn’t bet on that either.

This may explain why they keep aiming at the bad guy but hitting his dog instead.
