SWAT officer attracts ridicule after he’s pictured with his rifle sight on backwards
Daily Mail ^ | March 16, 2013 | DAILY MAIL REPORTER

A SWAT team in upstate New York is being mocked as an example of the difference between military and police training after an officer was captured peering through a backwards sight on his combat rifle.

As users on the military Reddit were quick to point out when the image was posted, the reverse sight makes it effectively useless.

Users mocked the SWAT officers training and some went so far as to question the motives of some of the men serving in local law enforcement.

I’ve seen cops do things that would get them kicked off of most ranges.

That’s dangerous. When the “professionals” don’t know what their doing. It’s time to step back from the police powers precipice.

And yet one carefully placed round placed to the head from a sniper can take them out despite being draped in body armor...lol

At least he realized the fact his Holosight was on backward as evidenced by the back up iron sight in the raised position...

I would not think the primary sight would not be stored on the carbine, however, zero would be compromised.

Both a result of unionization.

Yep. Also I knew one that shot himself in the foot mishandling his own personal 1911 getting out of his car after coming back from the range. The force covered it up - not only the accident but as this was in Canada the gun should have been unloaded and stored in a case. Carrying in a holster and loaded outside the range were both crimes.

I'll confess to attaching a FastFire backwards the first time I installed one. In my defense, it took less than 30 seconds for me to subsequently slap myself on the forehead and flip it around, but for that brief amount of time I could have been at the mercy of our house cat.

The first thing that struck me about the photo was actually the odd - at least to me - way the other guy is holding what appears to be a Remington 870P; it would look reasonable if he were behind an MG34 and had a stahlhelm on his dome, though. I tend to keep my left hand out on the forearm of any pump gun, but I'm just a dumb old civilian without the benefits of government training and accreditation.

Good catch, I think. What the heck is he doing? The muzzle’s going to jump straight up if he fires like that. Bye, bye, sight picture. Possibly he’s more concerned about not exposing himself than actually hitting anything.

"I’ve seen cops do things that would get them kicked off of most ranges."

I have asked Police Officers to exit the range, during training classes, for their behavior.
Safety violations were not tolerated and would not be condoned by continuing with them in attendance in the classes I was providing.
Sadly, this was an all too common behavior.

Here's a brave swat team member who had his brain on backwards.

So the SWAT Cop had the sight on his 'Assault Rifle' on backwards, no big deal.

His assignment was to shoot the neighbor's dog.

They sure don’t look like “cops” anymore; haven’t for years. When will Posse Commitatus apply to them, “sartorially”?

Wouldn’t they have taken those units to the range to qualify or break-in long before using them in a real situation? Or maybe this was just a training exercise. Still...
