North Dakota’s Senate passed a pair of anti-abortion measures Friday that are considered to be the most restrictive in the nation, including one that would prevent women from having an abortion based on a genetic defect.
The measures now to go to Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple who has indicated he will sign them.
The new state laws are even more strict than one finalized last week in Arkansas that would make the procedure illegal after 12 weeks of pregnancy. One North Dakota measure would prevent women from having abortions based on a genetic defect, like Down syndrome. The other would ban doctors from performing an abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected—as early as five or six weeks. …

It would be a stretch to call them “hard workers”. Union members are some of the laziest “workers” I have seen... never seen a union “worker” who was worth his pay regardless of industry. And they are about not delivering their labor, but fulfilling their quota.
The only reason unions exist is to force the businesses to overpay what actually worth of those goons.
If my bff listened to her doctors badgering, her first 2 born would not be alive today.
They are now a healthy and smart 12 year old girl and 8 year old boy.
Her "doctors" advised her they both had the same defect, don't remember the name, but something to do with a hole in their brain, if I remember correctly.
Her and her husband went through heck with all this genetic counseling they had to go through to "prepare" themselves for the loss of their babies.....IF born.
The 1st I can see, fine. However, that turned out to be a huge mistake. But her 2nd, with the same "abnormality" and her doctors PUSHING her to abort, just as they did to her 1st born?
Yes, same doctor. It's something we bring up often. The "what if" I listened to them. She would be left with 1 out of 3 children this day.
She fought them tooth and nail. Even if they never made it to full gestation, or did so and died shortly thereafter, she could NOT bring herself to murder her child.
After what she went through with her 1st born, which is already stressful enough to a new mother, she was all "eff you" regarding her second (1st as well, but not as strongly).

But along comes Todd Aiken and Mourdock, and surprise, the average voter sees republicans as kooks.
I must admit, if I saw the commercials, I would have voted democrat, too.
Republicans need to learn that ANYTHING they say will be turned against them.

It should have been labeled:

Then you should defiantly read the article its not what the title seems to suggest.
This is good for pro-life folks, the title & terminology used just doesn’t make any sense.
Prior to the early 1960s, you didn't even need a driver's license within the state. You also didn't need a pistol permit, open or concealed.

The question I was addressing was “How — given the passage of these way Conservative anti-abortion bills — did ND end up sending a ‘rat to the U.S. Senate?”
If the electorate are as Conservative as these bills strongly suggest, why on Earth did the pull the lever for a ‘rat Senator?
The electoral dissonance makes no sense. ND puts a ‘rat in the U.S. Senate, but sends enough Conservatives to its own Legislature to swing the State to a more anti-abortion stance than any of the other 49 States?
I was just trying to explain how that happens without using the term “schizophrenia.” That’s all.

Labor unions permit laziness, but that doesn’t mean all the members are lazy. To the contrary, most arduous forms of labor are represented in one way or another by labor unions. I have the greatest respect for the individual that works a hard week. Show me a man that works a hundred hours a week, and I’ll trade stories.
Collective bargaining against tax payer dollars must be outlawed. Unions should thrive in the private sector providing any form of intimidation and thuggery is prosecuted to the maximum extent possible.
These are my views as a conservative libertarian. Individuals must have the right in the private sector to jointly represent themselves — however, I hold the collective mindset in contempt as a degenerate imposition on a free society.
Any union is fortunate to have the man. No man should boast about belonging to a union.
North Dakota is a right-to-work state.
The oil patch isn’t unionized in any way, shape or form, never has been.
The left-wing candidate won because she’s been around state politics forever, her brother has a statewide radio show, she ran AGAINST Obama on many issues and as a pro-oil, pro-gun, pro-farmer, pro-family candidate in constant, warm, flag-tinged ads from beginning to end.
The Republican candidate wasn’t as smooth as she was and sounded mostly like a griper against Washington, while she campaigned as a champion for small-town (and big university) North Dakotans.
Furthermore North Dakota is still heavily Scandinavian and by history and by practice is still given to a kind of limited collectivism, the idea that you give your neighbor a helping hand carried to community and state level.
Finally North Dakotans (farmers, older people, Indians and university types) are famous for sending bacon-bagging Dems to Washington while electing staunch conservatives and penny-pinchers closer to home.
Because of Todd Akin’s ego.
