EPA likely to delay climate rules for new power plants
Washington Post ^ | March 15, 2013 | By Juliet Eilperin

The Obama administration is leaning toward revising its landmark proposal to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants, according to several individuals briefed on the matter, a move that would delay tougher restrictions and could anger many environmentalists.

The discussions center on the first-ever greenhouse gas regulations for power plants, which were proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency nearly a year ago. Rewriting the proposal would significantly delay any action, and might allow the agency to set a separate standard for coal-fired power plants, which are roughly twice as polluting as those fueled by natural gas.

While the move could bolster the administration’s legal justification for regulating power plants’ carbon emissions, any retreat on the rules would be a blow to environmental groups and their supporters, who constituted a crucial voting block for President Obama and other Democrats in last year’s elections. . .

More from article:

Jeffrey Holmstead, a partner at the law firm Bracewell & Giuliani who represents several utilities, said the agency is responding to industry’s concerns that even some new natural gas plants would not be able to meet the proposed standard.

“My sense is they realize the path that started down doesn’t work,” said Holmstead, who headed EPA’s air and radiation office under George W. Bush. “This proposal is so completely different from anything they’ve done before they’ve created a problem for themselves.”

The Dims need to get past the mid-term elections in ‘14, and putting more coal states out of business is not prudent. After The First Dictator has all the levers of D.C. power in his grasp, he can shut down every coal mine in the country and see the price of electricity soar, as was his stated goal way back in ‘08.

” Rewriting the proposal would significantly delay any action,”

And delay any construction too. Uncertainty, ya know.

No, I believe the Rats will do only what they can get away with between now and November of next year. They are going to lay low a little so that the electorate isn't totally turned off. Between now and then they will also try and destroy the Republican party so that they can keep the Senate and win back the House for the Dear Leader's final two years in office. If they can do that, then America will be doomed because the Rats will eviscerate the Constitution on a scale never before seen. Expect the Sencond Amendment to be neutralized.

Yes the regime is converting the (successful) Obama campaign machine to work on the 2014 House elections.
I think in 2010 they were over-confident and got ambushed. They’re not making that mistake again.

“My sense is they realize the path that started down doesn’t work,”

So Obama's finally come to his senses about socialism?

If power plants which emit CO2 are penalized, then the Obama regime can regulate human breathing as Americans produce more CO2 than do the power plants.

Knock on the door coming to you soon. “Pay a penalty or stop breathing”.

Until AFTER the 2014 elections. That’s what this is all about.

If he wants to REALLY fight Global Warming, he’ll need to glassify China first...since they are putting out nearly twice as much as us now. Pretty soon we’ll have about as much impact as Belgium.

Meaning we shouldn’t be complacent either. We need to keep getting the word out and couple that with the most conservative winning cadidate we can get.
