Pat Caddell, the Fox News Contributor and Democrat pollster who engineered Jimmy Carter’s 1976 Presidential victory, blew the lid off CPAC on Wednesday with a blistering attack on "racketeering" Republican consultants who play wealthy donors like "marks."
"I blame the donors who allow themselves to be played for marks. I blame the people in the grassroots for allowing themselves to be played for suckers....It's time to stop being marks. It's time to stop being suckers. It’s time for you people to get real," he told the audience that included two top Republican consultants. . . . Caddell left no doubt he is not an admirer of Mitt Romney's campaign management skills. He called Romney "the worst executive I've seen" when it comes to leading a political campaign. Romney's failure to attack Obama's Benghazi debacle during the foreign policy debate was "cravenness" that came about because his consultants told him "we don’t want to look warlike." . . . As I said before about Romney - his one and only true goal was to make sure no one else got the nomination and then LOSE to Obama. The fix is in - playing the game with or without the Racketeers isn’t going to change anything. Rearranging the deck chairs comes to mind...

I decided that Romney and the Republicans didn’t really want to win the election when Harry Reid drooled out his “some guy told me Romney didn’t pay no taxes” crap and there was no observable rebuttal. Somebody at National Review wrote something like “if Harry Reid isn’t the most hated man in America a week from now, the Republicans are failures”, and that’s exactly what (didn’t) happen.

Caddell predicted that the Republican Party, unless it became the anti-establishment, anti-Washington party, would become extinct, like the 19th century Whig Party. "These people [in the consulting-lobbying-establishment complex] are doing business for themselves. They are a part of the Washington establishment. These people don’t want to have change." Caddell called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) "the Ambrose Burnside of American politics." Burnside was the commander of the Union's Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. He was dismissed by Lincoln for his inability to press his advantage against the enemy, his plodding and unimaginative strategies, and his inability to focus resources on the tactics needed for victory.
All of it is spot on, but these in particular hit hard.
The Republican Party should be disbanded and a Conservative Party established in its place. People with conservative principles should not be expected to vote Republican in order to keep the fat cats fat and well-connected in the bowels of the Government Mafia.
I don’t believe Romney personally wanted to lose but I think the Washington power brokers did. Romney could have overcome it by showing a little fire.
We saw the same thing with Pete Hoekstra in the senate race against Stabenow. He fought to win the primary and then just kind of evaporated and practically handed the seat to Stabenow and she got more votes than Obama did in Michigan.
Now the MI GOP is trying to foist Scott Romney on us to run against Levin. They’ve got to drop this infatuation with the Romney family. Aside from George Romney, they have a pretty mediocre record. Mitt was a one term governor and Ronna was a state senator till she ran for the Levin seat and lost.
Furthermore, Caddell lays out what I’ve been saying for quite some time.
The Republican Party is a friend to conservatives the way Pakistan is an ally in the War On Terror.

Caddell, a democrat, was the first to warn about the “GOP Consultant Establishment”. He also warned during the campaign that Romney was blowing it. We should listen to Caddell.
I was a Reagan Democrat, and I voted for Carter as an eighteen year old over the betraying Rino Gerald Ford, who had just verbally trashed my candidate for the better part of a year. I absolutely loathed Ford for his spinelessness, court appointments, and crappy policies. Ford was such a liberal that the commie press turned on Carter with two weeks to go and Ford nearly won an Obama style victory.
Caddell, Jody Powell, and Ham Jordan were the Carter insiders who gave the 1976 campaign its instincts. During the Clinton presidency, Caddell frequently challenged the party orthodoxy. He's the only Democrat around that makes me recognize my former party as it was, instead of today's lineup of communists, useful idiots, P.C. religionists, parasites, dirtbags, and double dipping or more pension sharks. I wish we had a thousand Pat Caddell’s.
