Dear Capt. Kelly,
Houston, we have a problem: Your story makes no sense.
Youre against rifles like the semiautomatic AR-15, which look like weapons of war, when you know full well the military doesnt use them, but instead uses the select fire-capable M16. Yet you go to a dealer to buy a .45, a sidearm, which was actually, in your words, designed for the military. Im not following your logic here.
You say as you were leaving the gun store, you noticed a used AR-15 and bought that, too. You then complain about your background check, and use that to attack private sales which dont undergo background checks. Im not following your logic here.
You say you have not taken possession of the gun yet, but when you do will turn it over to the Tucson Police. Why? If you wanted to buy them a gun, you could have just given them the money. If you wanted to prove how easy undocumented sales are, you could have bought one privately and taken possession of it instead of going through the trouble of proving youre not a prohibited person. Im not following your logic here.
The most troubling thing is, you didnt admit that was your intent until after your purchase had been reported by alternative media and people were commenting on what appears to be hypocrisy of the highest order, compounded with implausible excuse-making. You then told CNN that making a Facebook announcement was something you and your people had a plan for, but you didnt know when, like its some kind of big decision you have to consult a team on. Im not following your logic here.

The left is used to being given a pass on everything.
Silly Proles, don’t you know that those silly laws do not apply to your betters?
liberalism can’t exist without hypocrisy
their #1 rule is “It’s okay when we do it”
Kelly is a freeloading gold digger in search of a free ride through life.
Why didn’t he pick up the gun when he bought it? Was he having the dealer accessorise it?
I thought the police could get fully automatic weapons,so a semi would just end up being destroyed
He reminds me of the child pornography collectors who try to claim they’re merely “researching” child pornography.
Anyone an operating brain cell knows this guy is full of more crap than a Christmas goose. Buy an AR-15 for the purpose of giving it to police ... right. Try again, sport.
Buying a gun with intent to turn around and give it to someone else like that is a straw purchase and a felony...
Woops.
Maybe him and that 30-round magazine news-tard can share a jail cell for their Federally mandated minimum ten yer sentence.
“I” only bought PLAYBOY (45 years ago) to read the articles! ;-D
Maybe he’s planning to run against Ashley Judd in the Ky Dem senatorial primary....
BINGO!
I would like to see the conservative press delve into how Jerald Loughner got the gun in the first place. Loughner was known to the police, he was scaring people at his school. Why did the Democrat sheriff give him a license to buy a gun? And why did the same sheriff start blaming the Republicans just hours after the shooting? Was he trying to divert blame away from himself? Why did the Democrats bring up Sarah Palin’s website because of the innocent target pictures that she used? And why doesn’t Gabriel Gifford’s husband not take his fellow Democrat the sheriff of Tucson to task for giving a gun license to an obvious pyscho? Where is the national Democratic party on all of this?
five day hold on the NICS check???
That’s because most liberals profile with anti-social tendencies and many are genuinely sociopathic.
i have never met anyone who has bought something legal they don’t believe in, just so they could turn it into the police.
they do not exist. kelly is lying and he’s a libtard for thinking we’re dumb enough to believe his lies.
Lovin’ it.
Kelly struck me as a slimeball from day one. But for the fact that he was an astronaut he would have has zero chance with Giffords. Correct me if I’m wrong... Didn’t he fly a shuttle mission after she was shot? Anyone? Anyone?
“something you and your people had a plan for, but you didnt know when, like its some kind of big decision you have to consult a team on.”
What kind of plan? Like maybe a staged, public mass shooting attempt? Seems to be the latest rage.......
Yeah. His gun grab is payback to Obama for that last shuttle mission they gave him because a loon shot his wife.
Yeah his brother was on the space station when Giffords was shot but Mark Kelly was already scheduled for the next launch. The twins in space thing was all about PR in my opinion.
An American “astronaut” in 2013 is sort of a joke that sums up the state of our collapsing nation.
How will this “astronaut” get into space? Jumping? Flapping his arms?
I once bought a gun just as a test of the legality of doing so. Having studied NY gun laws for years, I wanted to see how “extreme” a gun I could get. Months of paperwork later, including the Sheriff saying “I’ve not signed such paperwork in my 13 years in this office, enjoy it and make sure I never hear about it again”, I had a 12ga pistol.
I didn’t promptly hand it over to police.
A decade later, it’s not 10 feet from me now, one of my favorites.
How will this astronaut get into space? Jumping? Flapping his arms?
Uhhh no...the once proud nation of America now pays the Russian’s to send our astronauts up to our Space Station.
Another form of Re-distribution of wealth re: Agenda 21.
Sheriffs in Arizona don’t give out ‘gun licenses’. Arizona has no such process.
The concept of ‘gun license’ is pretty much limited to some New England states.
YEP! All publicity and Politics! He really is a Slimeball!
He got there flapping his mouth and marrying Giffords!
In this Breitbart article the reason given is that a customer either traded or sold the gun to the gun store. The store owner put a 20 day hold on it to make sure it doesn't show up as stolen or linked to a crime.
Mark Kelly can pick it up after the 20 day hold.
The mere thought of firing a 12ga pistol makes my wrist hurt.
And how many children have you killed with it?
Maybe he's trusting Eric Holder to not make waves about him committing a felony by lying on his form 4473. Either Kelly perjured himself by saying "yes" to "are you the actual purchaser?", or said "no", in which case the store could not sell him anything. But Kelly was "doing his duty" in an attempt to blame legal gun dealers and citizens, just as DOJ and BATFE were doing with "Fast and Furious".
Kelly doesn’t believe “we” are dumb enough to believe him and his lies, he only needs to convince the 47% and anti-guns crazies to believe him. You know the typical Lib/socialist/dem/Obama supporter.
As well it should.
You’ll not fire more than 3 rounds, if not just 1.
But you’ll spend the next week with a huge grin.
Pumpkins fear me.
As an FFL holder, this story got my dander up. We need to get serious about these people, especially in light of comments that Kelly made elsewhere about looking forward to purchasing guns at a gun show. To wit, we need to compile a database of names and other info on known anti-gunners. I don’t have a business, but if I did I would not sell Mark Kelly so much as a cleaning brush, let alone an AR-15. Others might choose to sell to him and then immediately leak as much information as is legally possible to friendly media outlet. We know that some time ago Sarah Brady bought a gun for her son. Had that information come out in a timely manner it would have been an excellent tool to use against the antis. I suspect that leftwingers buy LOTS of guns, including “evil black guns”. Let’s make a list and check it twice.
Why are you evil conservatives being so mean to Mark Kelly? What happened is not his fault! Everyone knows that AR15s can force poor unsuspecting citizens into purchasing them by proximity alone. That’s why his story makes no sense. LEAVE MARK ALONE!
Yes, it does go to show you that you can command a Shuttle mission, but are not smarter than the average gun owning patriot...
There have been a few astronauts who have come on later to be rather unstable, quirky, and pains in the ass after their flights...
Not all of them are saints...
NASA is testing a new launching procedure...
It involves eating some of the outstanding Tex-Mex in the area, holding your breath the next morning and lighting a fart...
The ascent performance guys over at the propulsion test division are looking into this...
Let's drop him from 40K feet and find out.
Please, don't make me use this. No, seriously, please, please, please - don't make me use this. This will hurt me more than it hurts you (almost). :-)
“...is a straw purchase and a felony......”
Nah, He’ll be a felon just like the moron Agent of the State who touched off a round in a classroom full of kids a few years back.
He’s one of “The Onliest Ones” - you know, the Onliest One who be’s professhnul’nuff to handle dis here GLock40...BANG!
He reminds me of the child pornography collectors who try to claim theyre merely researching child pornography.
Buying a gun with intent to turn around and give it to someone else like that is a straw purchase and a felony...
That is one shrewd observation.
Didn’t think of that. His plans probably changed whe he got caught buying it.
“Surfing porn? Why, no, dear; I was only researching it!”
Slugs hurt the most. Big, full power, 1.5 oz, fast-impulse slugs. Your thumb will hate you. And you will laugh very hard.

Yup. The form 4473, that he had to sign, specifically states that the buyer is not purchasing the gun on behalf of anyone else.
Kelly also said that he plans to sell the gun across state lines and eventually turn it over to the police. Unless he sells it to a police officer, I'm not sure how he can do both. But in any case, right now Kelly's a hypocrite. If he hands the weapon over to the police, as he said he wants to, that would make him a felon. And I think depending on the state, if he tries to sell the gun across state lines, that could compound the felony.
