Democratic Congressman: ‘Capitalism By Itself Is Not What American Values Are All About’
Mediaite ^ | 3/12/13 | Noah Rothman

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) took a swipe at American capitalism on Tuesday amid a discussion with MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts about the Catholic Church’s ongoing conclave to determine who will be the next Pope. Rangel declared that the church needs a new pontiff in order to continue their global charitable works and that Americans support that charity because Americans do not value “capitalism by itself.”

American values are a lifetime in political office and laws that apply to everyone except the ruling class.

When did Charlie Rangel get appointed definer of American values?

I thought he was the crook who represents Harlem in the US Congress.

If it were not for capitalism, people would not make money and there would be none for charitable giving.

Capitalism by its very nature runs almost completely contrary to any other system heretofore tried in human history. Therefore, your statement - Charles Rangle, you yutz - is stupid on it’s face.

American values are so unique, they cannot be synopsized into a sound byte.

We are and have been different from all other nations and social structures on the planet.

The basic element to Americanism is personal freedom, which in and of itself is encyclopaedic in scope and practice.

It's a lot easier and faster to describe the non-American ... like obama .. than it is to describe an American.

Go anywhere on earth and you are immediately identified ... "You're American, ain'cha' ?"

El Rushbo just today -

I would say the Catholic Church is on its way to irrelevancy if it doesn't start distancing itself from the Democrat Party and the idea that liberalism equals charity. Because liberalism does not equal charity, and that's how the church got sucked into supporting Democrats. Not just the Catholic Church, but all religions got sucked in to supporting the Democrat Party and all these movements, all these social causes, because they began to equate government largesse with charity. And it isn't.

The government is not a charitable organization. Charity exists because people willingly donate their own money to the cause. That's not what happens with government social programs. That money is extracted from people, and it's spent on things that many people would never spend that money on if they had any control over it. But the church got roped in, and they weren't the only ones that got roped in.

Who needs Capitalism if you’re of a class of people who steals the wealth from the hard working Americans, gets caught and suffers no consequences? Rangles comment rings of YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT. If the US didn’t have Joe Biden as VP I’d be inclined to think that a certain type of politician has the market cornered on being ABSURDLY STUPID.

And peace should be the predominant role that any religion plays.”

Charlie, are you telling this to the Catholics because of all the altar boys loading themselves down with explosives and yelling "Deus Vult!" before blowing up themselves and their victims?

Capitalism is trading value for value. Capitalism needs, no, demands a virtuous climate. Look around you, can you consider this society guided by a divine invisible hand? No, the liberals..er..ah...’Progressives’ have taken any force greater than themselves from the town square. If we do not depend upon them, we are on our own, as they like to say.

Christianity was the other part and you’ve pretty much done your best to destroy its presence here, Charlie.

Rangle is right, ‘Capitalism By Itself Is Not What American Values Are All About’. You have to marry it to Christian values or you get a 3rd world country.

If it’s all just incentives to create trust as soon as those incentives are gone you’ve got nothing. Unless people believe in God and act on that belief you don’t get a winning culture.
