Sirius Radio is a failed business model(alternatives are available)

So I'm driving along and turn my Sirius radio on and still, nearly two months later, there is no FoxNews Talk.

See, I like Hannity. He's A great cheerleader but, that's as far as his content is and I can't stand his idiotic setups throughout the week where he and his guests get involved in a discussions that devolves into mindless drive that, on the radio, is crosstalk. That probably works on TV but on the radio it's just aggravating noise.

So I like Tom Sullivan and other hosts as an alternative and FoxNews Talk was opening me to other viewpoints and broader subjects.

But, two months in and Sirius is acting like a monopolistic confederacy and is not budging on their demands to FoxNews Talk.

I also like Cam and Co. And NRA radio.

So here is how it is "Sadly not Series": YOU'RE FIRED!"

I been using that term since I was sixteen and bu the time I get around to saying it I absolutely mean it.

There are alternatives to your crap business model such as Pandora and iHeart radio.

I have moved on and your business won't survive.

I won't be renewing my subscription on any of my cars. That's five cars that you just lost as a customer and I save 500-600 bucks a year.

Buh Bye.....Plicks ..

Yep. I just took a cross country trip. Listened to IHeart radio the entire way. I only had a couple of short dropouts and I barely put a dent in my 2GB monthly data usage allotment.

I already pay for the cell phone data plan. Why would I pay more for radio?

Okay, I must be late to this party as I don’t know what’s happening here.

I have XM, and quite honsetly, it sounds like it’s playing through a tin can. The sound is really crappy. But I thought I have Fox News and a couple of other conservative stations, am I missing something?

I too am seriously thinking about dumping XM, but mostly because of the sound quality.

Dittos on Sirius-XM ditching Fox News Radio ... I'm getting seriously close to ditching Sirius-XM for this and other reasons.

Ever try listening to XM-125 on weekends? Very little live programming (Bauer and Rose on Sundays), reruns of Hannity and Beck, and off the air most of the time! And while they're off the air, Sirius Left is still spewing commie bs.

Oh well, basketball season is almost over, so terrestrial radio will soon be back to normal ...

Did they disband the Fox Radio network? I hear Tom Sullivan and Alan Colmes on my local Fox AM affiliate now.

Check your listings. They may have gone terrestrial.

I have Sirius and it sounds fine. Are you playing it through your phone (the app) or through a radio?

In what way is it a “confederacy?”

According to some there won’t be in dash radio in automobiles within five years.

Congress will pass a law to require one. Take it to the bank. Just a matter of the NAB greasing enough palms on Capitol Hill.

Sorry you’re not happy but your vanity is just that. Nothing you say has anything to do with the success of their business model.

Here’s the bottom line: bandwidth costs money. Telecoms are finally realizing that “unlimited” really means the kids with the fastest toys are going to tie-up 90% of their capital investment (i.e. bandwidth) and guess what’s been going on with the growth of smartphones and tablets? Something’s got to give and it’s going to be your pocketbook. If you’d rather write a check to AT&T or Verizon, that’s your choice, but it’s a choice betweeen paying for broadcasting content direct to you via satellite vs paying for it to be relayed via satellite to terrestrial broadband providers that transmit it to your device.

I dropped XM because the audio quality is so poor. I can hear the jitter of the 1s and 0s go by. It is not smooth music.

I’m listening to Pandora now. I even put on headphones when driving my old truck, because the Pandora audio out of my cell phone is excellent.

Been running Sirius since about 2002. Never had problems, audio quality can still annoy my family and make my ears ring (might oughtta stop that one...), and have never missed Fox News Channel since it joined the network.

Never listened to Fox News Talk so not really missing it. Just know that in all three ‘sets’ the station comes in 5 by 5.

A little irked that SciFi channel never made it to air, it was one of the possible channels that helped trigger joining.

YMMV

I’ve seen the stories.

Hogwash!

Live and local are just two of the strengths of Radio. Sat and HD can’t cut it.

It’s about communication and information. Not so much entertainment.

No, it plays directly through my competent car stereo. I think they compress the satellite signal so much that it basically sounds like music on an AM radio.

I should have been more clear in my post. It is AM/FM that is supposedly on the way out over the next few years. Here's a link to one article I read and a thread on FR about it a few days ago. Things change as new technology develops so who knows what the future will bring.

I was a Sirius and xm user until I got my first smartphone four years ago. With it, I have unlimited options and the true portability that even the portable units didn’t offer. Sirius still direct markets to me. The last time they called, I asked the rep if they had heard about Internet streaming. My wife’s new vehicle has xm with a prepaid period. instead, i got her a cable to plug her phone into the auxiliary input. Quality is probably not much different (depending on the source) but is perfect for casual listening. I cannot imagine ever paying for xm again- even if it was Pandora- priced! In only a dozen years, their cutting edge has been blunted and they are a dinosaur. They are not long for this world...

tried Sirius Radio for several months as it came with my car. Very poor audio quality. I tried to like it - couldn’t do it. Did not sign up for the subscription. Fortunately, my car stereo has a USB port. I just plug a flash drive in - presto, great music quality. I have lots of music, and keep several flash drives full and in the car for variety. Better than any radio station, no commercials, great audio quality. That’s all I need in my car.

I am a jazz and classical music fan and the musical offerings on Sirius/XM are pathetic. I find that my local public radio stations have a better selections of the music I want to hear. Pandora is a great option and would be worth the subscription if it were offered on satellite radio.

I discovered Fibber McGee and Molly through the network. What a great show! Humor ahead of its time.

I can’t stand the way they always play ads for Playboy Radio on the non adult channels. I also think their pricing is insane. That service is worth a few dollars a month per radio, not $15.
