Might be denied since he filed the false report. Stupid thing is, it would have been covered otherwise (assuming he has collision) as you can give anyone permission to drive - even if they’re unlicensed. Now, keeping your policy after that may be a different issue.

The 19-year-old woman behind the wheel of an allegedly stolen SUV

I suspect the vehicle wasn't stolen but rather loaned to the driver. In an attempt to cover his own ass for loaning it to an unlicensed driver, he now says it was stolen......but what do I know.

The car wasn’t stolen. The scumbag who gave the car to the kids to use is only saying that now in order to get an insurance check.

I think the problem the SUV owner is going to have is that he is besmirching the reputation of all the kids. Just read this thread and see all the references to “car thieves”, etc. Somebody in one of those kids’ families is going to finally get p.o.’d enough to speak up.

We had a horrible accident here in NJ a few years back where kids in a Jeep hit something like an abutment, causing several of them to fly out into the opposing fast lane, where they were quickly hit and killed by oncoming traffic. They weren’t wearing seatbelts.

I was fortunate in having a friend that worked as a dispatcher at a towing yard; you see those wrecks, and you won’t drive five blocks to the store without your seatbelt. Hair caught in the front grill of a car, brain matter in the bed of a pickup, it is disgusting but scares the heck out of you.

I remember reading a story once about a van that had 5-6 teens in it. One passenger got out, and the other kids and the van were never seen again. This was in 1979.

Nearly 20 years later, they discovered the van, upside down in some lake. The bodies, now skeletons were still inside. Some of the skeletons were still wearing the now rotten clothing.

Really creeped me out. Imagine knowing your child was down there all those years.

My parents both rode an ambulance for 14 years. They're fond of saying that they never unbuckled a seatbelt from a body.

“Really creeped me out. Imagine knowing your child was down there all those years.”

I agree, but in the end they had closure. I’d rather know in the end.

We had a horrible accident in Newark along a major roadway (not a highway) where some women went off the road into the Passaic River. They were speaking to a 911 dispatcher as the car filled with water, and they all drowned; the dispatcher couldn’t figure out where they were.

Pointing out that the car was stolen would be racist, don’cha know.

“They’re fond of saying that they never unbuckled a seatbelt from a body.”

That’s worth repeating; anyone too ignorant to use one will use the rare example of when it hindered someone’s escape from a car, but for the most part anyone who doesn’t use it is a fool. I just see too many bad drivers around, and any one of them could smash you at 70 mph, tossing you out of your car.

I did EMS in high school. Seat belts really did save people. It sure beat slamming your head into the windshield.

Yep, if you stay in the car, then the CAR absorbs the impact. Outside of the car, YOU absorb the impact.

Their philosophy is about the same when it comes to car sizes, as well. In general, and within reason, bigger is better.

I may not pay attention to everything that my parents tell me, but after they've cleaned up who knows how many 10-55s over the years, I listen to their advice on that particular topic.
