The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction runs several programs that heavily emphasize racial issues in public schools.
Some feel that one of those programs – an Americorps operation called VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) – may go a bit overboard by encouraging white students to wear a white wristband “as a reminder about your (white) privilege.”
Geared towards high school students, the program “seeks to build capacity in schools and districts serving low-income families to develop an effective, sustainable, research-based program of family-school-community partnerships,” according to its Facebook page.
That sounds reasonable enough.
But the program’s approach becomes a bit suspect when one reads the Gloria Steinem quote on the top of its webpage: “The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.”
The webpage also offers a series of suggestions for high schools students to become more racially sensitive. They include:
Wear a white wristband as a reminder about your privilege, and as a personal commitment to explain why you wear the wristband.
Set aside sections of the day to critically examine how privilege is working.
Put a note on your mirror or computer screen as a reminder to think about privilege.
The Wisconsin DPI also sponsors several similar programs, including CREATE Wisconsin, an on-going “cultural sensitivity” teacher training program which focuses largely on “whiteness” and “white privilege.”

Will DPI’s obsession with race and “white privilege” actually translate into better educational outcomes for all students? Not likely.
But it will continue to divide the state by race and income status, and allow bureaucrats to make a case for more government funding so they can create a different type of America.
Wisconsin taxpayers really ought to be paying more attention to how their education dollars are spent.
Only if these Wisconsin Education Officials will agree to wear “ANTI-AMERICA MARXIST SH*TBIRD” wristbands.
If they want white students to wear “white privilege” wristbands... Then only if they put black students in ankle chains and rags. How about it? Didn’t think so.
And what would they do if, unexpected to school officials, the wristbands turned into “white power” wristbands for the kids?
Place I used to work was "Earth Friendly". The HR weenies set up a program - if you got caught doing something that the local Green Police deemed "NOT Earth Friendly" (like using styrofoam cups), then you got a great big sticker put on your wall - "My Carbon FootPrint Is Bigger Than Your Carbon FootPrint", with a big black oily footprint on it. Sort of like getting a frowny face is supposed to be shameful, or something.
Naturally, I got "written up" the first day, I think that they came to my office specifically. Green Police came in and slapped the sticker on my door. My response? "AWESOME!!! Can I have an extra one for my car???"
From there, it was on. Everyone wanted one of these "shameful" stickers - getting one was a badge of honor.
Talk about a nonsensical corporate program backfiring. It blew over in less than a week. I still have my sticker, though. It's cool.
How about a scarlet letter or a yellow Star of David?
I hope people tell them to go F themselves.
What’s the white privilege? To be blamed for all the ills of the World? To pay taxes to support those who don’t pay taxes?
This is the Obama age of racial harmony, doncha know?
Which they will. Why shouldn't the white kids be aware of the priviledge that their parents EARNED by working hard to establish them in the middle or upper class?
Why do many non-whites feel they are entitled to what other people have earned yet they refuse to work for it themselves?
This is the great sin of entitlement programs. We tried to be good to the 'poorer' people but only succeeded in creating an entire culture of parasites. The only cure I'm afraid to say, is to cut them off and let them starve (or learn to work and feed themselves)
The only white privilege I ever had was to work for over 40 years and pay taxes for the useless class to sit on their butts and collect welfare.
Lets see, I work two jobs to help pay for the private school I have to send my kid to for any hope of a future, whilst still paying taxes for a failed public school system, I pay the same for gas as every black, Asian, and Mexican does, I go to the same doctors except I have to pay deductibles and such many of them don’t and if I tell a joke or smile funny just as all the groups mentioned above can do freely I myself run the risk of getting fired or sent to “sensitivity training”. Oh and I am an out of touch Neanderthal racist whose family never owned slaves, educating people of all races to better their lives but it all my fault they have to subsist on my tax dollars.
Tell me about this freaking “White Privilege” thing again?
Here are some examples of priviledges we dont have:
Graduating from school without being able to read or write.
Getting into med schools or elite colleges with average SAT scores.
Being unable to flunk out of med or graduate school no matter how low your scores.
Affirmative action hiring and promotions for jobs.
Govt benefits for life without having to prove eligibility.
Being able to play the race card any time you want.

A wristband that boldly states
“I’m here on merit, not on skin color”
sounds good.
All those not wearing them are in effect saying “my scores didn’t have to be as good as the scores of the people wearing wristbands”.
WHAT? No Star of David?
Race is the one issue that is NEVER discussed on global terms. In every other category, economy, energy, pollution, banking, science, you name it, we think globally, and the discussion centers around global impacts and inter-relatedness.
But not race.
Whites are less than 15% of the global population.
Majority white countries are the only countries that have immigration policies designed specifically to change the demographics of the country.
Majority white countries are the countries with the most immigration. In fact, the US has more immigrants in most years than every other country combined.
And yet, in the few remaining majority white countries we are supposed to feel bad about our “privilege” ... and we are racists if we don’t go along with the genocide.
Whites, through conditioning, are the only race that seems to think race doesn’t matter, except when it can be used against us, as in these “privilege” campaigns.
Morons. Americans need to demand that their tax dollars are no longer used to promote public school idiocy.
Not being Racist here, but hey the White Race made this Country what it is in the very beginning. Not to say that other races have not help defend and mold the Country post Revoulitonary War.
With the current economic situation what makes anyone think any race is privilidged. All are struggling.
Is that white band on the wrist to say hey I’m prividledged and do not need to enhance my education because my fellow classmates not being prividledged cannot glean from the same curicculim we are all learning from!
I belive the Mirror or the look at ones body will remind anyone of their skin color! No matter your race be proud of it and expand on the positives! America spent billions to eradicate segregation in schools and now teachers bring it back to the school system! Sickening! Unless all are persecuted equally all cannot advance. So now it is time to persecute the white race. Home School your Kids Hire a Tutor for once a week! Do not allow fools to educate your children.
To make Kids suffer over the sins of their forefathers is just not right! The use of an issue that happened over 200+ years ago to compel students to say we are still dragged down by another race is not only wrong but is against all of what America is about. These people are not educators but propagandist pushing an issue!
