Colorado Senate give final OK to gun control bills

DENVER (AP) -- A gun control package pushed by Colorado Democrats cleared the state Senate on Monday, as sponsors described it as a needed response to Colorado's blood-soaked history of mass shootings.

One Democrat after another rose Monday to talk about restricting gun rights after last July's shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater. The vote came on the eve of an expected plea by the alleged gunman, James Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 people and injuring dozens more.

The measures approved by the Senate included a limit on the kinds of high-capacity ammunition magazines Holmes is accused of using in the theater shooting. Other measures included expanded background checks on private gun sales and a new ban on gun ownership for people facing domestic violence charges.

Republicans argued in vain that the gun controls would not have prevented the theater shooting, nor the school massacre last December in Newtown, Conn. Some cited the 1999 Columbine High School shootings outside Denver.

Democrats stood firm.

Yep, irrational.

Cities are so out of touch with reality they eventually die.

The “little people” who live in the stick and face the uncertainty of life and the reality of the physical things in this world see much more clearly than the residents of the great cities.

When push comes to shove, we can exist independently. It has been so for many generations. Yes the skills have become dulled with disuse. But we can provide for our families.

I am not a prepper, but I have always had a garden, blackberries & strawberries, fruit trees and we can hunt. We still have wild game. Hogs, deer, turkey, dove and fish.

I decided in January that I would stock up on some reloading stuff for the guns we already have. Have got most of that in place in spite of the shortages. Probably will expand on some of the calibers we reload.

Do I expect chaos in the streets? Nope. Some of the families here have been friends for 150 years. My family and one other have that kind of relationship. Here in this county since 1889, but in another before that.

Some things don't change.

This is still Texas where I live.

Sheriff Makita of El Paso County has said, with support of just about every official in the area, that he will not enforce any law that encroaches on the 2nd Amendment.

Gun lovers in Colorado, it’s time to relocate south to your haven.

Game on.

What are these images from? Excuse me, but I haven’t watched TV in over 12 years and haven’t gone to a movie in about as long.

They look compelling and enticing, though.

Those images are from a show that wrapped up its run a few weeks ago. It was one of the very few TV efforts I loyally followed, and I enjoyed it immensely. The show was called ‘Fringe’, and it was essentially a reworking of ‘X-Files’.

“lets face it the state has gone to the loon left like MA, WA, CA, and sadly the natives were infested and invaded by the CA loons looking to escape CA, if that actually makes sense to them”

AZ is similarly threatened. They come to AZ and complain about the radicals taking over CA. Within 2 years are chsnging AZ into the same hell hole they left.

"Some cited the 1999 Columbine High School shootings outside Denver."

Cite all they want. The fact remains that there are 10's a millions of guns and billions of ammo that would take decades to go away.

If ALL guns were made illegal tomorrow and some how magically confiscated and disappeared, the bad guys would still have access to their choice of guns. There would be an underground market, much like drugs. It would either be an American underground market (think drugs), or clandestine imports.

The answer to mass killings - arm everyone. There is one thing that bullies and crazies understand - a .357 or 12 guage in their face.

It's way past time to show the idiot gun-grabbers how many times innocent civilians defend themselves with their legal weapons. I read it every day on this very forum - I mean EVERY day.

The MSM pundits and even the conservatives never discuss those statistics that are even supported by the FBI. The NRA and GOA have all the stats anyone needs, but they are never used in the debate. I don't get it. Self-defense stories should be the lead...

“We need a wall alright, it;s on the Potomac and the border of CA”

Instead of a wall why don’t you tell your relative in San Fransisco it’s ok to come home now and he can bring his husband too....all is forgiven!

BTW I come from a pioneering Colorado family whose youngest daughter moved to California before the turn of the 19th century......up until ~15 years ago the family ranch/town had its own zip code......

All you California haters remember that California was once a reliably Republican/Conservative state until the emigration from parts east, south, north, and mid west to California in the 60s & 70s...these people were not all Dems/liberals, but they brought their go along ta get along rino republicans friends with them and thereby ruined this state politically and soon economically....you can help turn this around by taking all of your crackpot friends and relatives back home!

Might I also remind you that this forum is brought to you courtesy of a Conservative Californian in Fresno,Ca?

Except the rural people are out numbered now.

Take head, Texas Fossil. This can happen to you if you keep importing New Yorkers and Cali fleeing people.

If governor Hickenlooper signs these - and there’s no reason to believe he won’t - I for one will not comply, period.

IMO, the problem is not keeping or acquiring (for now) more banned items, the problem is using them. A thug breaks in, you drop him with a pistol that has a hi-cap magazine or one of the eeeevil black guns and you are an instant felon for possession of banned firearms.

There are a lot of hunters and shooters in CO.

Then, they sure as hell had better turn out en masse to throw those ****s out of office next year. No excuses!

HUH who said there wasn;t any conservatives in CO or CA?

You went on a rant about liberal loons changing CO, and the south into the socialist cesspits the liberal loons left and yet you got all defensive.

As for relatives, what relatives in San Freako?

CA and the west coast nearly and the north east is lost, they;ve become socialist cesspits and sadly those loons which made it like that are now moving to ruin other states.

Yes build a wall on the Potomac and 50 miles from the coast of the west coast.

BTW I;ve talked to Jim about this and he said too as many other conservatives north easterners and CA that their states are liberal hell holes now.

very true ,the left have now targeted AZ and TX and as soon as they get those border states then the country is lost so hold on AZ.

The GOP thinks having a meal with the pansy boy makes everything great again and then they wonder why many call them the stupid party

Why do you think liberals would relocate from a liberal place to a conservative place? I don’t buy it. I would guess that the conservatives are the ones moving to Colorado, Texas, and elsewhere.

Rather, it is simply the cumulative effect of 50 years of government schooling and single motherhood. Every state in the union is trending blue.

I go to Colorado to elk hunt. Sadly, I am already making plans to move my hunts to Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho. Takes long to drive there and less OTC opportunities, but I will only stop in Colorado to leave a deposit in a local porcelain throne.

Look to your own state, Florida......before casting stones at others. Florida isn’t the bastion of Conservative thought that the nation looks up to now is it? Maybe we should wall off Florida from the rest of the US!

I wasn’t ranting about Colorado.....never been there. If you read carefully you’d see I’m a Forty Niner, whose peogenitors moved here from Colorado in the late 1800s.

Yeah the coast of California is infested by liberal scum, much like your south Florida counties, but you’d be hard pressed to find a liberal here that wasn’t from some other state. Most of the people moving from California are Conservatives....The libs love it here except for the very wealthy and entertainment elite who move away to get out from under the taxes......

As for
“You went on a rant about liberal loons changing CO, and the south into the socialist cesspits the liberal loons left and yet you got all defensive.”

That doesn’t make any sense. I’m from California.....and...

I”m way tired of people lke you complaining that “Californians” are ruining your “paradises.” First off there ain’t that many “Californians” leaving to have much effect on any other state.

Most of the problems other states are experiencing are home grown, the result of their local “education” system and teachers Unions, among many other things....like an extremely biased media (both local and national), corrupt politicians, ad nausium.....to shurg it off as “Californians” is both naive and dangerious....(or is Californian the code term for “Liberal Loon?”)

“Defensive rant..?” nah, to repeat....I’m just tired of people like you blaming their problems on “Californians,” amd letting it go at that, while your own home grown politicians and loons work their butts off undermining you. “Know your enemy.” Look in the mirror first.

Yes California overall went for Obama in 2012.....but so did your state, Florida. So what’s your point?

I know, point your finger and shout “Californians.”

HUH, I know about my state, that is the point.\\It;s why I don;t live in south FL but have seen first hand how the northern liberals have ruined states.
Ask about NC, VA, too

What ever way you look at it the state of CA is a liberal cess pit being run into the ground and that is why many conservatives want or are moving.

As for my state going for obama, LOL ten you have no idea about the fraud here and how northern liberals vote here.

Oh yeah?????

well I didn’t hear you calling for walling off Florida from the rest of the nation as you did for California, and that is the basis for my posts to you.

Both states are experiencing the same effects from liberal emigrants (though California has an immigrant, both legal and illegal, problem way in excess of Florida’s, that magnifies the problem. That California has a head start in it’s journey to socialist he!! on Florida, may be the only real difference between them....

Hey, I’ve got an original idea for your state....lets wall off Florida! Yeah “That’s the ticket!” Maybe you guys can start your own Conservative website to rival FR too!

(I know you won’t. It’s way too easy and fun to throw stones at “Californians” than face your own problems, and provide solutions.)

“We have met the enemy, and he is us!”
