Kin say teen killed by cops owned no gun

Of course he didn't own it, he probably stole it.

In this particular case, you really need to read the (very short) excerpt. It is an impartial account by two NY reporters on the family members' suggestions for NYPD diffusing a gun situation:

"“If he did have a gun, I could say, ‘Yo, get rid of that, son. That’s not the right thing to have right now.’ ”

“He got shot six times, and the police didn’t get shot once,” fumed great-aunt Brenda Nunez of the shooting of Kimani “Kiki” Gray of East Flatbush.

What's this, a new litmus test for justifiable homicide?

He was just starting to turn his life around, He loved his Grandma.

Kids like this will kill you quicker than an older man.

How many 16 yo gang kids take their guns home to show to their Momma’s. Of course she didn’t know he owned a gun.
It was probably a stolen gun.Since no one in New York can own a gun.

The gun laws work don’t they?

Best line I've read in weeks!

He didn't own it because it was a probably a cops throw away weapon. Every cop I ever knew carried a through away weapon, maybe just a knife or small pistol, but turn the body over and drop it under the deadman and you now have self-defense and a justfiable shoot

In other news...

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - A 43-year-old St. Petersburg man was shot by police Sunday night after he allegedly charged them while armed with a pair of scissors.

One more reason why you should not run with scissors.

“Police are supposed to be trained to disarm a child, or disarm anybody if they have a gun,” said one of Gray’s cousins, who did not give her name.

They DID disarm him.

The teen’s rap sheet includes four prior arrests, including charges of grand larceny, possession of stolen property and inciting a riot, sources said.

To which of course his gandma would say "He's a good boy, he wouldn't do that"

His father could not be reached for comment. (probably because we don't have a clue who he is)

This is a poorly written article. The cops say he pointed a gun at them. The family said he didn’t own a gun. Is anyone denying that he had a gun? Is there any real evidence? If he had a gun and pointed it at the cops, he should expect to be shot. If he was just adjusting his waistband and cops thought he was pulling a gun without seeing anything, they may have overreacted. This seems real simple to me — there was either a gun at the scene or there wasn’t. The story doesn’t say.

Question: How was the kid to know they were undercover cops when they weren’t in uniform and driving an unmarked car? He could have thought they were drug guys or other gang members. Just saying.

Nothing has changed since 2007. If you wanted to avoid me using the FR software to excerpt your article, you could originally have excerpted it to 50%.

I don’t own any guns either. I just let some live in my closet. Am I going to argue with a gun?

The idea of an urban youth with a gun is pretty far-fetched.

The caption below the picture of the gun says, “THE WEAPON: Police say Kimani “Kiki” Gray pulled this gun on them before cops killed him.” So yes, there was a gun at the scene.
