His EBT (foodstamps) card was rejected.

He was pi$$ed.

I was in line at the local grocery store last week and a guy two people in front of me swiped his card. The cashier asked if he "needed cash today". I thought it was a debit card, but then I noticed the EBT on the card.

He got $75 when I was loading my bags into the pickup, he was walking into the liquor store a few doors from the grocery store. That was when I got pi$$ed.

A local station here in Indy got a file from the state on locations and amounts where EBT/TANF cards were swiped.
Vegas, Puerto Rico, Disney (CA and FL), etc.

I noticed something interesting when I scanned that chart. There are two states who had more than 10% of their “working poor” population eligible for SNAP in 2010.

Mississippi and Texas. I would have guessed the first but not the latter.

You all raise excellent points, and we are quickly reaching a tipping point where even middle-class people who agree with us philosophically are going to start regarding themselves as suckers and fools if they don’t sign up too.

In Texas: Illegals

Which makes sense however California according to the chart has only about 8% eligible for SNAP. I guess it depends on their definition of "working poor."

Too bad they don’t break out illegal and non-citizens in those stats.

Amazing. They say we have only 11 million illegals, but SOMEHOW, our food stamp roles have swollen, almost IMMEDIATELY by some 40 million or so in a very short time period . . .

Just like I know people who call themselves conservatives who see no problem spending down mom’s money to qualify for medicaid for the old folk’s home or ‘walking away’ from an upside down mortgage twice within the same decade.

One very frightening and disgusting figure in this chart is population per House seat.

Our Founders wrote “Article the First” as a way to enumerate Representatives to Congress based on the decadal census. They arbitrarily froze the number of representatives at 435 during FDR’s reign, and it’s been stuck there ever since. Prior to that time, the number of representatives in the House rose based on the population numbers from the census.

One representative to a million people, for instance in Montana, is NOT a representative government.

Food stamps now are essentially a second currency in America. A mass market food retailer who didn't trade in food stamps would be hard pressed to stay in business.

Don’t forget Texas also got refugees from New Orleans from Katrina and most stayed; in fact I read a magazine article that said most had their families left in New Orleans join them later in Texas instead of them going back to LA.

I remember driving past "Reelect Ray Nagan" billboards here in Atlanta. They never left here either.

Oh, I already feel like a sucker and fool. If I could get EBT I would. The Federal Gov't is stealing from me already, so I would like to get back anything I could.

I know in Michigan they redid the eligibility requirements and college students were not allowed to receive foodstamps. The food stamp ebt in Michigan has been revamped whereby the recipient no longer receive food stamps at the beginning of the month, the state has implemented by the day of the month certain number of recipients receive the benefit for 22 days, whereby the number of recipients receiving the food stamps is spread throughout the month.
