Kerry Kennedy says she took sleeping pill accidentally and fights to dismiss drugged-driving charge
NY Daily News ^ | 3/8/13 | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Kerry Kennedy argued Friday that the drugged-driving case against her should be dismissed because she accidentally took a sleeping pill and because the only damage done was to her pride and her famous name.

In a 99-page motion filed in North Castle Town Court, Kennedy and her lawyer also recount her work for social justice and include a large file of glowing letters from friends and relatives.

Kennedy is the ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and the niece of President John Kennedy.

She was arrested July 13 after police said her Lexus swerved into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 684 in North Castle, near her Bedford home. Police found her on an exit ramp and reported she failed sobriety tests and was slurring her speech.

Just what is it about that bunch of spoiled brats from the Kennedy family? They are always in an alcohol or narcotic induced stupor. Then they try to act as if their so superior to everyone else.

During the William Kennedy Smith fiasco Teddy gave an interview in which,in an effort to explain away the charges, the evidence and the fact that Kennedys seem to get into so much trouble,he said something like "the Kennedy family is a large Irish family and you're bound to have an occasional incident in such a family".That's not an exact quote but it's basically what he said.

Well...I,too,come from a large Irish family. And a *Boston* Irish family at that. And not a *single* member of *my* family has ever been a heroin addict,or been convicted of murder,or been charged with rape,or been the driver of a car that landed in a bay, killing a young woman,or been investigated, while in his 30's,of having "violated" a 14 year old babysitter,or been to "rehab".

Hey,maybe *my* Boston Irish family is the exception to the rule...far more boring than the typical one.

In the motion, she said the two bottles were side by side and "are virtually identical in size, shape and appearance."

"I have too much regard for the lives of others, as well as my own, to place them at risk by driving while under the influence of zolpidem," she wrote in an affidavit.

If you have so damn much regard for the lives of others, why are you so stupidly negligent to put the look-alike bottles next to each other??

And,didn't you notice that you were nodding off? What are you supposed to do when that happens? Stop driving!! Or is this stuff so potent that you never feel a thing? If so, it makes you doubly stupid to put the bottles near each other.

I wish I were the judge and could say all of this to her before I suspended her license for a year. She doesn't need a car. She can afford a driver. One who is not as stupid and negligent as she is.

“...the only damage done was to her pride and her famous name.”

I read down and find that she “swerved into a tractor-trailer.”

I guess the devil is in the details (or maybe, in the case of the Kennedys, behind the wheel.)

“because the only damage done was to her pride and her famous name.”

Actually, she sideswiped a truck. The poor truck driver was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident for not reporting that she hit him.

Heh, yeah, funny how they left that piece out of their defense. In Idaho that makes it an aggravated DUI.

The truck can be fixed. It's not like anyone has ever been hurt by a Kennedy who swerved while driving under the influence, is it? Besides, this is a Kennedy. Laws are for the little people - mainly for Republicans.

“Universal background checks? Just wonderin’. To buy pills, that is.”

At a minimum. I don’t think sleeping pills should be “shall issue”, but instead should be “may issue”, and I think the local sheriff should make the call as to whether the person really needs them.

There are just too many sleeping pills in this country. That’s the bottom line. First they need to registered. We need to know who the straw buyers are. We need to require that they be locked in safes and NEVER deployed, except immediately prior to authorized use. We need licenses for people to possess sleeping pills - they need to be tested and demonstrate that they know not to drive after taking one.

I could go on, I guess...

Roger that. The possibilities are endless. Besides, a little sleep deprivation never hurt anyone did it? Well, maybe me when the CFO doesn’t get her sleep allotment. Let sleeping wives lie. Or is it let lying wives sleep. I need a nap. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
