NEW YORK, March 7, 2013 - Inspired by the dramatic improvements in New Yorkers’ health and well-being after he banned smoking and junk food, as well as large sodas, salt, trans fats, Styrofoam food containers, and loud earbuds, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced that the NYPD is organizing a Food Felonies Unit (FFU) to further combat the proliferation of food crimes.

Nicknamed “Double-F-U,” the newly-formed unit is expected to be involved largely with restaurant menu supervision in its crime-prevention function, while also conducting sting operations on food service providers who break

When you can’t tell whether it is satire or not - that means it isn’t satire anymore, it’s a prediction.

I believe it's a satirical effort to show Bloomers effort to expand his reach into every aspect of NY life.

Food Court: "In the criminal justice system, diners are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories." I think I need a cigarette.

If they ever do a remake of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest he can replace Jack Nicholson.

Here’s another “brilliant” statement from the littlest dictator:

Bloomberg blames homeless shelter overcrowding on private jet owners.

" Does this guy ever sleep?"

CS Lewis answered your question when he foretold the coming of Bloomberg:

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

~ C.S. Lewis

I had to read the article and really think about it to be sure this is satire.
It reflects the sad reality of Bloomberg that it is hard to tell truth from satire with him. Five years ago, people would have thought you were weird for proposing limits on trans-fats, foie gras and the size of soda bottles.
