The front page of Saturday's Washington Post took the publicity stunt of shutting down White House tours and spun it as an educational event. The headline was In canceled White House tours, a civics lesson: Disappointed tourists help administration show sequesters pain. Inside the paper, the headline was Worthless tickets drive home governments dysfunction. Ahem, the tickets are free even when they are honored.
The online headline was even worse: "With canceled tours, White House teaching how democracy works." Reporter David Nakamura blamed not Obama but the "dysfunctional state of the union":
The White House tour is a civics lesson on American democracy. And starting Saturday, when 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. shuts its doors to the public, that lesson will focus on the dysfunctional state of the union.
Obama is a petulant, dangerous narcissist. He behaves like a shopaholic who just had her credit cards cancelled.
Two off of FNC have offered to cover but der fuhrer refuses to cave. Million dollar golf and vacations await. Must not keep der Fuhrer off his game.
When The Won curtails some personal spending for he and his family...it will be a civics lesson.
Wonder where spring break will happen?
Is it the Wh’s job to “teach a lesson”?
Ignore the Washington Post and the story doesn’t bother anyone.
My inside source tells me the place is full of faggots now, so closing it to the public could be considered a safety precaution for children.
It’s a lesson in political pressure, nothing more, nothing less.
What would the WaPo call it if it were a GOP president pulling
OK, kiddies, today in civics class we’re going to study ‘blatant demagoguery.’
The Prez Spent all your cash on frivolous crap.
I just waiting for Mooch to announce the next vac that will be funny! Tighten your belts kids the prez need to fly his family to paradise while you suffer!
They’re saving $2 million dollars for the rest of this fiscal year here so ... only $84,998,000,000 to go on this sequester “shortfall.”
Here’s another civics lesson proposed by Conservative Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas): The amendment would prohibit the White House from using funds to pay for Obama’s golfing outings until the White House tours are reinstated
It’s actually an economis lesson. Don’t pay for lodging in DC for your as it may be shutdown and a total waste of time.
heh heh Good for Louie!
Those of us who endured *asking* our congresscritters, months ago, for a ticket to visit )OUR HOUSE are very disappointed in the fact that we are being excluded from the WH during spring break vaca plans.
Civics lesson. My eye!
This was the email one of the gatekeepers sent me, after I inquired about the tickets [that had been granted/approved, after us passing as SS background check no less!]
Dear Ms. XXXXXXX,
Unfortunately, you are correct that due to the sequester the White House will no longer be conducting tours until further notice, effective Saturday, March 9, 2013.
Once tours resume, anyone who has a pending request will be notified whether their tour has been accepted or denied. If you have questions about your tours specific status in the future, I would be happy to follow-up on your behalf as often as youd like.
We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause as you plan your trip to Washington, DC. Congressional offices have not been informed of any other tour cancellations (U.S. Capitol or otherwise), but we will do our best to keep you updated should that change. Capitol Tours, we have been assured, will not be touched by the sequester.
Once again, we are very sorry for this frustrating news and hope to be able to assist you with White House tours once they resume.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me at Sylvia.email@example.com or (202) 225-2265.
From the above:
NBC News reported Thursday that halting tours of the White House, a measure the Obama administration has blamed on the spending reductions mandated by sequestration, would save about $74,000 per week, or nearly $2 million over the remainder of the fiscal year.
Does that tell you anything you need to know about the government (E.g., how many warm bodies add up to $74 large per week)?
Well, it should. But then, go back and reread the headline!
If there were ever an example this is it.
individual and family vacations for the king verses WH tour.............you decide
The lesson is — Don’t vote for Democrats.
People should quit visiting DC for a while and let them lose tourist money. Go to Vegas instead. See the “Eiffel Tower” and other interesting sights!
