Illinois Gun Owners March on Capitol for Concealed Carry

Illinois gun owners have gotten the shaft for far too long.

The Land of Lincoln has long been known as the last state where concealed carry is not allowed, and although that may soon change, it wouldn’t be surprising to see state legislators shuffling their feet.

Even though the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals deemed the concealed carry ban unconstitutional, the Illinois House of Representatives continues to push anti-gun legislation. In fact, one bill proposing a ban on semi-automatic firearms was approved by the House just this week.

On Wednesday, gun owners from across the state gathered in Springfield, Ill., for Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day to make sure their voices were heard loud and clear. Sponsored by the Illinois State Rifle Association, thousands of gun owners braved the cold weather and flooded the streets as they marched to the State Capitol, demanding Illinois residents—regardless of whether they live in Chicago or downstate—be granted the same Second Amendment rights guaranteed to the rest of the United States.

The mood was calm and civil, but it was apparent this was a crowd that was sick of being held down by seemingly disconnected lawmakers.

“All of my life, I was a shooter,” said gun activist and Springfield resident Tom Shafer, who led the crowd in a series of chants as they made their way to the Capitol. “The government—except for the Vietnam draft—never put a gun in my hand, never assisted me in being a shooter, never assisted me in being a marksman, never helped me defend my home. Far-away, far-off, outgunned, undermanned police, they never helped me a bit; I did it all on my own. And now for a government to try to say 30 rounds is too many?”

If you have a connection that can handle video, the video is worth watching. This march should have been national news.

This march should have been national news.
I'm sure it was very closely watched and analyzed by cops high in Illinois and Chicago politics, and probably even some in national Democratic [sic] party headquarters.

If there's one thing tyrants and wannabe tyrants fear, it's citizens who refuse to be reduced to serfdom.

While some or much of IL may see CCW, don't look to see CCW in Chicago any time soon. Before the Heller ruling, it was impossible to buy a handgun. After Heller, it is now only nearly impossible.

Trust me, Chicago will thumb their noses at any court ruling.

On my system it shows right after the fourth paragraph, the one that ends in “to the rest of the United States.”

It is just under two minutes.

And Chicagoans will continue to thumb their noses at Chicago.

Interesting - our military and veterans of all ages are the most level-headed, rational people in the nation.

the gangs already have concealed carry. if ccw is passed in illinois they will make it so difficult to get a permit it won’t be worth trying to get one.

The military is the last stand of all that is good in America,

Notice how Feinstein says they are all incapable of having protective firearms because they might be nuts.

It’s a full scale political assault and it will fail. Folks need to get engaged and start now.

What needs to be done is 1 million p.o.’ed IL citizens march on Springfield and introduce a whole bunch of political slime to term limits: tree, rope, assembly required, repeat. Applies to all three branches of state government plus all state agencies. Next stop, Chicago.

How about taking it a step further. Gun owners in ALL 50 states march on their capitols all in one day OR march in Washington, DC. Can you imagine 10,000,000 gun owners in DC at the same time. Boy talk about sending a clear message...

I agree wholeheartedly. That includes police officers and other first responders. I think it has to do with the very character of the type person who chooses to serve his country. Just about all of them I’ve ever known were raised in a Godly environment with good parents and are stable and hardworking people whose character is continuously refined via trial by fire.

I’d rather openly carry.

If I read what Governor Bryant signed correctly, we will be able to do just that in MS next July. Kind of ironic that it will be mainly CCW folks who can open-carry in a Constitutional Open Carry State, but judges have messed it up by putting case law into the records that says a holster, at least in part, conceals the weapon which means a CCW is required to have a gun openly on your hip. It looks like the Governor decided that for MS, a Holster will be considered a device that CONCEALS the weapon which makes it OK to carry even if part of the weapon is visible. Not perfect, but a good move.
