Now we are finally getting somewhere. Just like Obama is ineligible technically because his fathers British Nationality 'governed' his birth status in 1961, Ted Cruz is ineligible too. Fox News has confirmed it and rightly so. Sean Hannity made a huge blunder the other day and declared Ted Cruz a natural born citizen because he was born to a American mother in Canada. He was so wrong. Cruz is a 14th Amendment U.S. 'statutory' (not natural born) citizen which is something completely different than a Article 2 Section 1 Constitutional natural born Citizen which is explicitly designed only for the presidency by the framers.
He seems like a personable fellow, with some common sense and a good work ethic, but always find myself having to turn him off sooner or later.
And I won't be turning him back on for a while. That bit with Ted Cruz was the last I could handle.
We have enough stupid educating the ignorant as it and he took it to a national audience. Cruz sorta lawyered out of it, accurate, but not.
Fine. Rand Paul can make Cruz Attorney General. Works for me! Allen West can be VP.

Excuse Me! If you are born abroad to American Citizens you are an American Citizen by birth and most likely the birth was recorded at a US Consulate. John Mc Cain was born in Panama. Many US “Natural Born” Citizens are born abroad to U.S. Servicemen serving overseas. Are they ineligible too? You are $#%&%!
Why do you think there was a Senate Resolution declaring John McCain a “Natural Born Citizen” before the 2008 election? He was born of two American citizen parents, but not on American soil. And before you say it, McCain was not born in the American Canal Zone. He was born in a Panamanian hospital.
Many people think there is a difference between a “Natural Born Citizen”, a Citizen, and a Naturalized Citizen. Otherwise why would it be specifically mentioned in the Constitution.

Wrong. Obama is ineligible because his father was not citizen and his mother wasn’t eligible by laws at the time to confer citizen by herself alone.
How old Ted Cruz’s mother was at his time of birth, along with immigration laws at the time is what makes his eligible or not.

If we must argue about “natural born” let us argue about Obama, who clearly has convoluted allegiances.
Why Target Cruz? Cruz has been a breath of fresh air.

Rafel Cruz escaped from Cuba in the 1950’s and was a legal immigrant/resident of the USA at the time of Ted’s birth. He did not become a U.S. citizen until 2005.
Cruz’ mother was born in Delaware.
Both parents were temporarily living in Calgary (for work purposes) at the time of Cruz’ birth in 1970.
I am not sure if the laws at the time would make Cruz a “natural born citizen” for the purposes of eligibility for Presidency - any legal scholars here?

And, by our currently popular standard definition of natural born citizenship, that child would also be a natural born of whatever country s/he was born in, just as anchor babies are said to be natural born citizens of this country.
The slippery slope tells me that eventually, the UN will make everyone a natural born citizen and anyone can be president.
If Obama was legal then Cruz is legal.
One thing is certain, Cruz and his parents held allegiance to America.
That what the dispute is about. It is amazing. If you were to have asked people 7 years ago who de Vattel was, only about 0.5% of the people might be able to tell you, now everyone is a expert.
My husband is a soldier and we were stationed in Germany at the time of my son’s birth. I was told by the US Embassy when we received his “American Citizen Born Abroad” birth certificate that the ONLY thing he couldn’t do was become POTUS.
So yeah. Tough cookies. He’s not a natural born citizen.
Some of you birther people are just head cases. Getting somewhere? It's like your determined to find people who aren't ineligible to run for President. Ted Cruz is an excellent Senator and absolutely someone who may have a presidential future. Fox News is very likely WRONG in this case.

The TLDR version is that Cruz has an American mother so he's obviously an American citizen, and people with similar birth situations (outside the US) such as McCain and George Romney would have been eligible if they had won. So far no one has challenged a presidential candidate born outside of the United States. I think Ted Cruz is probably eligible and based on what I've seen so far, I hope at some point he runs and wins.
