MEPs to vote on EU 'ban on all forms of pornography'
The Telegraph ^ | 03/08/2013 | Bruno Waterfield

Controversy has erupted over next Tuesday's European Parliament resolution "on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU", meant to mark international women's day, after libertarian Swedish MEPs from the Pirate Party spotted the call for a ban in the small print.

While not legally binding, the vote could be the first step towards European legislation as the EU's assembly increasingly flexes its political muscle within Europe's institutions.

The sad part is that there are people here who would support this type of measure..

I'm 100 percent in favor of a ban on *bad* European porn, the east bloc stuff is dreadful. Wait, what?

Importantly, this is just *part* of their crackdown on free expression. Three other things they want are even more horrifying:

1) To outlaw criticism or humor directed against politicians, “protected classes”, “protected religions” (not including Christianity or Judaism, or any other religion than Islam).

2) To require all reporters and journalists to be licensed by the EU, and their nation, which can be revoked if they run afoul of EU or national bureaucrats, who could do so by whim.

3) To adopt a libel law similar to Britain’s insane libel statute (actually been reformed in Britain a bit), which would define libel as “having offended” a person, even if what was written was factual.

In other words, the EU parliament has gone “full royalist retard”.

That’s why the focus is on the porn ban — it’s a diversionary tactic.

Folks know what they like eh. Judges do.

As one of the handful of people in this country who have ever had as an occupational responsibility that of determining if printed matter was pornographic ~ let me say this about that ~ if you want to mail the stuff the recipient can decide it's pornographic and ask that they be added to the list off folks who don't want it. The list costs something to create, and once a year the USPS divides the cost up among the porn mailers and charges them a proportionate amount.

Sometimes a mailer will make a mistake and send something to someone on the list ~ that's a different story ~ and there USPS will assign a classification specialist to examine the material to see if it's pornographic as understood in the law.

When that system was first set up vast amounts of porn, mostly as xerox copies, were sent to USPS for evaluation.

Copies don't count.

If you are interested in the development of the current body of law regarding porn you might try reading through all the references at >http://law.onecle.com/constitution/amendment-01/50-obscenity.html

There are some judges who like all of it; others only like some of it; and other judges who take the position that people who do not want the stuff should not have it forced on them by the government (hence the postal references throughout these decisions) ~ BUT, and it's a really big one you should all be concerned with, SOME USSC judges think you should have no right to even protest having porn tossed at you against your will.

That is why we need to be careful here... Yes porn is bad and disgusting, but if we the people give the Government power to control content on the Internet, the Government will not stop at porn.. Plain and simple..

This is going to be a collision between the Law of unintended consequences and rule 34 (if it exists, there is pornography involving it). With the right frame of mind, one can see anything as pornographic, including such things as plumbing and electronics, both of which feature male and female connectors
