Michigan Democratic Sen. Carl Levin announced Thursday he will retire at the end of 2014.

The chairman of the Armed Services Committee, first elected in 1978, is the longest-serving senator in Michigan history and will turn 80 before Election Day next year.

In a statement, Levin said the decision not to seek another term was “extremely difficult.”

Harkin, Rockefeller, Kerry, and Crooked Carl. How about the Lautencorpse? He’s currently “the dean of the RATs” in the Senate agewise! Actually, if he runs, he’s not likely to make it through another 6 years, so we would get a “Christie appointment,” whatever that’s worth!

Retiring from the Senate at 80? What’s WRONG with him? /s

Exactly! It's not like they do any work, like pass budgets...

Sweet. How we didn’t get rid of Junior Senator Debbie Spenditnow (D-MI) last November still amazes me. She’s incompetent, dumb, unattractive and far left.

Looking up the numbers, I see StableCow ran way ahead of Baraq - nearly 5 percentage points.

Hoekstra must have been a very weak candidate.

Just like Murdoch here in Indiana ran way behind Romney and lost to a Dem.

Let’s hope that Dingell is next. Another one that’s been hanging around too long.

Best wishes for a happy retirement, Carl. How about "early" retirement, and don't let the door hit you on your way out?

Levin is the kind of Jewish Democrat who would rather cheerlead for Hagel's confirmation as Secretary of Defense - and kiss Obama's rear in so doing - than do what he can to protect Israel's future.

Hoekstra must have been a very weak candidate.

He ran an almost non existent campaign. He put up more of a fight against his GOP challenger Clark Durant.

Reminds me of the Romney campaign!

Hoekstra would have been OK. Not spectacular but good on defense and guns.

Hopefully, we can nominate someone who will run a better campaign than Pete Hoekstra did last year.

Oh man that was bad. What a disappointment.

I'll have to see who's running before I make my choice. I hope it's not Candice Miller. She'll just do what she's told by McConnell.
