Legislator says cyclists’ heavy breathing causes pollution as they ride

SEATTLE — A state legislator started a firestorm by claiming bicyclists add to greenhouse gas emissions by breathing heavily as they ride.

Bike shop owner Dale Carlson said he was so concerned about a proposal to tax bicycle sales that he wrote to state legislators.

The email he received back from the transportation committee’s ranking Republican, Ed Orcutt of Kalama, made an unusual claim.

“He talked about the effect on global warming we have from breathing hard,” said Carlson.

Orcutt refuted the idea that cycling is environmentally friendly by explaining that cyclists have “an increased heart rate and respiration.”

Orcutt wrote that means “the act of riding a bike results in greater emissions of carbon dioxide from the rider. Since CO2 is deemed to be a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride,” the email said.

“Oh, I thought that was amusing,” said Carlson.

Look on the bright side. When the collapse comes, guys like this will be quickly made into slaves by their feral liberal brethren. He is obviously so pussified that he will spend the rest of his slave life on his knees in all meanings of the term.

Many of the political ilk will. Because without their authority’ they are wholly powerless. And feral libs like gang bangers who will rapidly take over the cities where this type of idiot live will put them to any number of ‘uses’. From cannon fodder to...less masculine pursuits.

If the SHTF, I will enjoy seeing them suffer for what they caused.

The bicycle shop owner wrote to the committee and the ranking Republican wrote a fanciful letter back to him.

Did you guys fail to notice that he used LEFTWINGTARD ENVIROCRAZY attack points on this bicycle salesman's inquiry?

The bicycle guy's customers are the people who don't like your cars on the road ~ and they don't want to pay the taxes they make you pay.

The letter is sarcastic ~ the bicycle salesguy is a true believer in the bicycle cause ~ we have some posters on this thread who should not be allowed to walk very far without two guards!

While i do think the guy is an a**hole there should be a tax on bike riders. Plain and simple i fund their bike lanes that are specially built for them to use. It is time they funded their own crap. Time to special user tax their sale. Along with registration fees on a yearly basis, license plates and yearly inspections should be preformed on their mode of so called exercise. These so called exercisers should also be required to have bike riders license and take a test so they quit running into cars. Insurance would also be required the same as car owners are required to get. Its time these leeches paid their fair share. Anyone under the age of 18 would be exempt since bikes are for kids and not some faggy limp wristed liberal who demands i stay 3 feet away from them while they cruise thru red lights and stop signs.

Actually, no. All the bloviating from this Donkeytard contributes to is the destruction of the ozone over the Pole. Cyclists have no effect.

What's all the hubbub? *BECAUSE* the EPA classifies CO2 as a "pollutant," the Legislator is correct in his assertion about heavy breathing causing more of it. The silliness is not coming from the Legislator, it's coming from the EPA.

The Legislator is merely carrying the logic out further than the liberals like.

In other related news it is reported that scientists have determined that just one cyclist can add up to 10^-17 ppm to the CO2 in our atmosphere if he/she rides for an hour everyday for a century.

And further, that this would cause a 10^-21 degree C increase in the earths’ temperature each millennium for each of these anti-environmental wacko cyclists.

We need a law and we need it now.

Perhaps he was just trying to take Rush’s approach of “demonstrating absurdity by being absurd”, albeit it’s a strange place to do it.

You are correct. Most of the posters to this thread are completely missing what's really going on here.

What bothers me more is when they demand to be treated as “equals” but refuse to follow the rules of the road and ignore stop signs, red lights, etc. of course when they nearly get hit they flip they driver the bird and pedal off.

Being an avid cyclist I have no problem paying a licensing fee based on the gross vehicle weight of my bicycle as I do on my motorized vehicles. Those who believe CO2 is a harmful emission should hold their collective breath for 5-7 minutes - problem solved.

That is the way I took it, that he was poking fun at the greenies and their crazy CO2 ideas.

Here in Seattle the naked bicyclists sometimes take over the downtown streets. So they don’t pay for the streets, we have to see their naked butts and they whine about the CO2 from the commuter cars trying to get home from work.
