I have been listening to Rush talk about the Obama effort to deflect the responsibility for what is happening from himself to the wealthy Republicans. I have been trying to explain this since the first OWS protest started in NYC.

The OWS was all about deflecting the responsibility from the Democrats to wealthy corporations, despite the fact that most of the wealthy corporations that they are blaming are also crony partners of the Obama administration, like Goldman Sachs and GE and Warren Buffet’s BNSF in the Pacific Northwest.

I learned about this because the local OWS is also opposing the coal terminal in Whatcom County, that Obama is pressuring to have built. I asked how they could vote for the same Democrats that are pushing the coal terminal, including Obama and their answer was that they blame the corporations, Goldman Sachs, SSA, BNSF Peabody coal, not the politicians and they forgive the unions because the unions just want jobs. To accomplish this feat of legerdemain, they held what are called, “Democracy Schools.” These Democracy schools educate the activists and followers to the talking points that label the evil corporations as the oppressors of the little people, that have profited on the backs of the workers and now it is time for the workers to take back what is due them. This is what they are taught. They think that global trade and global government is a capitalist scheme, which is aimed at further exploitation of the US workers (read union workers). They think that the answer is world socialism. In other words, they want a piece of the pie, no not just a piece, they want the whole thing, just not in their back yard.

They held many of these Democracy schools before the election, all over the country. The first in my county was started by our Congressman, Rick Larsen. I tried to inform our local Republicans but they were too dense to understand that they were playing into the hands of the Democrats by supporting Obama’s coal terminals. If our candidates had opposed the Democrats on the basis of their support for the coal terminals, the Democrat voting base would have dissolved. The Greens would have had no choice but to abandon their own candidates. It would have been very problematic for Maria Cantwell, in particular. We could have had another Senate seat.
