TSA Sealed $50-Million Sequester-Eve Deal to Buy New Uniforms
CNS News ^ | March 5, 2013 | Elizabeth Harrington

The impending sequester did not prevent the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from acting in late February to seal a $50-million deal to purchase new uniforms for its agents--uniforms that will be partly manufactured in Mexico.

Soon after this new investment in TSA uniforms, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned Americans that the lines are already lengthening at airports due to the sequester.

...

the TSA said the uniforms will be "manufactured in the U.S. and Mexico."

Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the TSA is required to procure uniforms made in the United States. However, uniform products made in Mexico, Canada or Chile must also be considered due to the North American Free Trade Agreement and the U.S.-Chilean Free Trade Agreement.

"TSA's contract with VF Imagewear for TSO uniforms, which has some manufacturing facilities in Mexico, complies with the law,"

Good news is that at least at ATL the “long line” stuff is pure crap. Easiest security line ever this morning. Literally not one person waiting. If this is the price to pay for sequester lets do it every week :-)

And they can’t afford to incarcerate the illegal criminals.

The DHS insider said that the TSA is to be the administrations “enforcement agency”. It would make sense that they are being given preferential treatment. They need to look good while they harass the American people.

That would give them honor and standing they haven’t earned.

Is this more of that moronic Ulstermann crap? No offense to you WHATSOEVER but Ulstermann is a weed. The guy writes great fiction, but almost everything claimed never pans out.

Why do you need $50 million for uniforms?

Oh wait, that’s right, to account for waiting times, and payoffs.

Yeah, I know Ulsterman is thankfully, not too credible. I believe I read it from a CanadaFreePress source. Which I don’t know is any more reliable.

Having said that, with this administration and with the reputation of the TSA, it wouldn’t surprise me AT ALL. It just seems to kind of fit nicely into a little package...

I saw that.....$50 Mil/less than 50K employees =====>$1,000 uniform cost per employee!

How can it cost so much??? Here's what's provided:

“initial uniform issue consisting of 3 long sleeve shirts, 3 short sleeve shirts, 2 pairs of trousers, 2 ties, and one belt, sweater, socks, and jacket.” ..... "TSA may authorize an annual uniform allowance for officers to assist with uniform replacement expenses but officers will be responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and replacing worn uniforms."

That's a lot of money for such a large order.

Just another round of Obama&Co shell game.

It makes one wonder just how much is for uniforms and how much is going to skimming, palm greasing, kickbacks, and the like.

I'd also bet the majority of the uniforms will be made/assembled in Mexico, with the origin of the components unknown to the reader of the label.

Don’t forget the epaulets, shoulder boards, campaign ribbons, maybe a few color guard flags ( btw what is the battle flag of the TSA? ) -——aaaannnnd the ammo pouches for all that ammo they been buyin’? Like Marines do they give them a new set of Unis when they send them into battle?-————————Just picturing the typical morning formation: Colonel TSA commands “Report!”. TSA private reports: “sir we’ve managed to clusterflock at least five flights and a flock of geese this morning with everyone in position to bleep up snow plowing and landings this afternoon.-—Sir!” There’s just too much to work with here-—gotta quit before I hurt myself——Semper Fi

They also now own 450 million bullets or approx. 7,000 for each of its 65,000 armed-security officers.

I should remind everyone the “H” stands for Homeland, so for whatever reason, they are preparing for major combat on US soil.

So are the citizens, apparently. Tried to buy ammo lately? It is snapped up instantly.

I never understood why the part of the pants right above the knee is so much wider than the leg, while the pant around and below the knee is practically a tight fit.

Apparently no volume discount, either. But, hey, when it's OPM, who cares?

Anyone know how many times they have changed uniforms? It seems like every few years they get new ones.

Well, then, tax the Mexican workers and managerials in those factories. They get the money that should have gone to US workers who pay US taxes, let them help finance their own paychecks.

I was in LaGuardia airport the other day. Going through the pre-screen line I had to listen to male TSA Holder person working the metal detector chatting up the female TSA Holder person working the x-Ray machine. He was coming on to her obviously trying to hook up after work.

All funded by my tax dollars.
