Canadian Supreme Court Rules Biblical Speech Opposing Homosexual Behavior is a ‘Hate Crime’

Ottawa, Ontario – The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Biblical speech opposing homosexual behavior, including in written form, is essentially a hate crime.

On Wednesday, the court upheld the conviction of activist William Whatcott, who found himself in hot water after distributing flyers regarding the Bible’s prohibitions against homosexuality throughout the Saskatoon and Regina neighborhoods in 2001 and 2002.

“The Bible is clear that homosexuality is an abomination,” one flyer that was found to be in violation stated, citing 1 Corinthians 6:9. “Scripture records that Sodom and Gomorrah was given over completely to homosexual perversion and as a result destroyed by God’s wrath.”

Another flyer, entitled Keep Homosexuality Out of Saskatoon’s Public Schools, was written in response to the recommendation of the Saskatoon School Board that homosexuality be included in school curriculum. The Supreme Court declared the document to be unlawful because it called the homosexual acts that would be taught to children “filthy,” and contended that children are more interested in playing Ken and Barbie than “learning how wonderful it is for two men to sodomize each other.” The justices ruled that because the use of the word “sodomy” only referred to “two men” and not also the sex acts of heterosexuals, it was a direct target against a specific group of people.

From the article:

“While speech opposing homosexuality remains legal in the United States, some note that the nation is heading in the same direction as Canada, as discrimination laws are being enforced by state Human Rights Commissions across the country.

A number of incidents have made headlines in recent years where American businesses have been punished for their refusal to accommodate the homosexual lifestyle, such as the story of a photographer in New Mexico that was forced to pay $700 in fines for declining to shoot a same-sex commitment service, to the Vermont bed and breakfast owners who settled a lawsuit with two lesbians who were told by an employee that they could not hold their commitment service on the property. A Kentucky t-shirt screening company was also recently punished for declining to complete a work order involving t-shirts that were to be worn at a local homosexual pride parade.”

Yup. Liberals in Canada have essentially rendered traditional religious beliefs a criminal offense.

The only thing that prevents it from happening here is the First Amendment.

Gay marriage is only the nose in the camel’s tent when it comes to the Gay Lobby’s agenda.

Canada makes it illegal to speak out against homosexuality and Russia is making laws to make it illegal to promote homosexuality.

It’s a wild world.

No, it already happens here. The only additional requirement is that it has to cause "mental distress" to some queer.

The Bible also claims that Jesus is The Son of God which is insulting to Muslims.

Homosexual activists will get around this like they always do - by hiding behind and using "anti-discrimination laws" as a pretext, and using them as a bludgeon to force acceptance and affirmation.

From the article: The judges did note, however, that “it would only be unusual circumstances and context that could transform a simple reading or publication of a religion’s holy text into what could objectively be viewed as hate speech.”

Does this mean that it's ok to read scripture in church but not to address it in a sermon? What does "simple reading" mean? Is written biblical commentary now hate speech too? Can't you just imagine the activists chomping at the bit to challenge what is an "unusual circumstance and context" that violates the law? This is really disturbing.

Mr Whatcott should remain calm and continue to do what he’s doing teaching God’s word, God will deal with the Canadian Supreme Court:

2 Thessalonians 1:6 -

“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you”

'Zactly. I would never presume to know God's mind but I'm pretty confident that He doesn't care much what the Canadian Supreme Court thinks.

However His teachings are pretty clear on this - and he will not be mocked. Abridging the right of free expression He has bestowed on his children will not play well for these apostates on the court in the end.

The Bible contains speech opposing homesexual behavior, in written form...I guess they've ruled that it is also hate speech. How long before it is a crime to own one, I wonder ?

I expect posthumous charges to be filed against William Tyndale, Myles Coverdale, John Rodgers, Richard Taverner, and the entire team that accepted that “hate speech” commission from King James I of England. Without them we would be as loving and tolerant of homosexuality as the Taliban.

To get rid of the distinction between speech against sexual behavior and sexual orientation, the court decision said, "...where the conduct targeted by speech is a crucial aspect of the identity of a vulnerable group, attacks on this conduct stand as proxy for attacks on the group itself." (Court Decision)

Since "a crucial aspect of the identity of" Christians is to speak of all the teachings of the Bible - including those on homosexual behavior - this court's decision targeting Christians quoting the bible must also be seen as conduct that stands as a proxy for attacks on this group (Christians) itself. Where do you go for justice, when the Canadian Supreme Court commits a "hate crime?"

To those who argue that the court's use of a qualifying "vulnerable" before "group," is the distinction, answer this question: Which group is more "vulnerable" homosexuals who this court allows to freely express their views against Christian teaching and practices, or Christians who this court will prevent from expressing their view against homosexual teaching and practices?
