Student suspended for shaping Pop-Tart into gun

Baltimore, MD (KTNV) -- A student in Baltimore was suspended over breakfast.

7-year-old Josh Welch was eating a Pop-Tart at school. A teacher saw the pastry and said she thought it looked like it was being shaped into a gun.

The teacher also said she heard Welch say, "Bang Bang" while he was holding it.

That was enough to get him suspended.

Welch said his teacher got it completely wrong, "It was already a rectangle and I just kept on biting it and tore off the top, and it kind of looked like a gun but it wasn't."

Welch said he was trying to shape the Pop-Tart into a mountain.

The school sent out a letter late in the day to parents explaining what happened and why they thought it was a threat saying, "A student used food to make an inappropriate gesture."

Welch was suspended for two days.

I wonder when they’ll have the technology to put a helmet on all the kids so that they can monitor their thoughts?

What a shame that his teacher’s intelligence and common sense are way below his.

“told me because a year ago he was explaining the differences between the candidates (during a government class), and mentioned abortion, the powers that be told him today, you can’t talk about abortion. You’re fired!”

And if one of the little princesses came up to him and confided that she wanted to have an abortion and he DIDN’T refer her to someone in the school that could make it happen, (without mother and/or father knowing,of course) he’d be fired for that too.

The world has gone mad.

...walked up beside him and quietly said, “Eat that, before it lands you in trouble.”

&&&
Exactly.

I was teaching high school when the Columbine HS shooting occurred, and I had to warn a boy of just this sort of thing.

One of the things reported was that the shooters had a list of those they wanted to kill. Shortly after the killing spree, one of our senior boys was walking down a hallway during classes, pointing to various students and saying to each one, “You’re on my list”.

This was a small school, and all of the “targets” knew this kid. They and I also knew that he was not serious. But I had to pull him to the side with a word of advice, before someone reported him to our very progressive principal, Mr. DemonRat or to one of the lib teachers.

Good. In child development theory, it is well known, yet never spoken of, that a boy’s normal development depends on his ability to competently handle a weapon.

Based on behavior of boys and men all the years since I learned that, and it is a theory, it is clear that there is merit.

Taking away guns and weapons and placing a negative conotation on them, in my opinion, is dangerously emasculating, and perhaps that’s the goal at least subconsciously.

One of the nicest guys I know is a former champion boxer and a marksman shooter. Guys don’t mess with him, but he has a peaceful demeanor.

Also, Carl Jung’s theory of archetypes weighs in on this. Efficient handling of weaponry potrays a rite of passage into maturity for boys to men in stories (and movies).

That’s just about development. There’s much to say.

But they are FOOING around with masculinity and someone needs to make it stop. Moms are so unaware and unconcerned it’s maddening. THey do not know what they are perpetuating.

Here is a letter I sent to school board:

Dear AACPS,

Honestly, with all due respect. . . .how, in God's name, can you deal with such an important topic in such a stupid fashion? Is this how far we've come?. . .shaping a fruit tart into what may have resembled a gun is grounds for a two-day suspension? Did you happen to see what the mascot is of Park Elementary? It is a vicious, snarling, man-eating TIGER. . . .You are doing nothing but confusing the children with your politically-correct policies. You can feel good about yourselves as you pretend your marvelous policies are really making a difference, but, in truth, you are only hurting kids.

And what's with the note sent home to all the parents . .which only mentions "inappropriate gestures"? . . .Do you realize when you use such imprecise language, you only serve to stigmatize a young child? Think for a moment of all the heinous acts that could fall under the term "inappropriate gesture." Clearly, you didn't specify the exact nature of the "inappropriate gesture" because you knew it would call into question your own decision as inappropriate and, thus, cause any thinking person to hold your actions in contempt. , . Instead, to protect yourselves, you deflect the ridicule elsewhere. . .you hide behind your fuzzy terms and by doing so, help to stigmatize and traumatize a young child.

Shame on all of you!

Josh, If this is what your school system has become, you now know how o get a few days off from school. You won’t miss much, because they are not educating you about anything. In fact if you do it enough you may not have to go to school ever again. Good luck Josh, You’ll learn much more at home with home schooling.

Welch said he was trying to shape the Pop-Tart into a mountain.

Here's a picture of a mountain. It's called the Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe.

The ski run is called Gunbarrel.

Here's the view from the top.

I’m surprised they didn’t suspend him a whole month for eating the evidence.

It occurs to me that this idiocy might stop if children nationwide were to gnaw various food items into L-shapes, hold and turn the lunchrooms into a vast game of “cops and robbers”.

Maybe someone could proclaim “National Play Cops and Robbers at Lunch with Toy Guns Made of Food Day”.
