ALBANY, N.Y. - A group of 1,200 New Yorkers has forced a court review of whether New York's new gun controls were rushed into law in violation of the state constitution.

Robert Schulz, of Warren County, calls Gov. Andrew Cuomo a "king" for pushing through the nation's toughest gun law by suspending the three-day review usually required before votes on bills.

It's been 6 weeks since New York's SAFE Act was signed into law, banning defined assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Since then, thousands of people have rallied, and Friday, a court order forcing a review of whether the bill was rushed into law...

And good on 'em!
What's the latest on that fellow who was arrested under this cockamamie law (had some 30-round "assault magazines" in his car)?

It was poorly written, rushed through in the dead of night and there was no real debate allowed to take place on the law - not in committee and not on the floor.

There is no emergency that justifies suspending the normal deliberative nature of the legislative process. Which after all is necessary to protect the rights of the minority. The courts should strike the down the SAFE Act if only for this reason.

According to the title, approval is already a done deal. Ah, the liberal press . . .

Glad they are trying, but NY is as much a thug run place as Chicago. No doubt the fix is in so the facts don’t matter. Not getting my hopes up.

If its such an emergency why are some provisions going into affect up to a year after the signing?

I simply will not comply with the NY un-SAFE Act.

I will not register, I will not get rid of my 10+ round mags and I will keep more than 10 rounds in them. I will not background check private weapons sales and I will get ammo out of state.

It will be as though the unSAFE act had never been passed.

“It will be as though the unSAFE act had never been passed.”

It will be interesting to see how strict they will be on enforcement. Will it just be used against gang bangers or will they prosecute otherwise law abiding types.

The statists will hang some ordinary man that got caught off guard with his old, once legal gear.

Second generation politicians—offspring of famous politicians—are often big losers. Let’s look at a few: Al Gore, many of the Kennedy clan, Jesse Jackson Jr., and of course, Andrew Cuomo. (I deliberately won’t address Romney—he’s probably more famous than his father).

Don’t forget that Andrew Cuomo also had a significant part to play in aiding the real estate disaster buildup through his position as head of HUD, where he pressured Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to increase their purchases of subprime mortgages.

it will most likely be a passive process where if they catch you in the process of some other infraction, they will crucify you for the gun...

like a traffic stop for a light out on the way to/from the range and they see a gun, they will check to see if it's registered, if not, screwed

any call to your house be it fire, ambulance, B&E, dog barking, neighbor knows you have guns and doesn't like you, whatever, if they see a gun, same/same

then try to get you to roll over on other gun owners

Unless you are a career criminal, in which case the gun charge will be dropped as they are today.

After Roberts approved of centralized death care, the rest of the constitution is just window dressing now.

Heck, yes. Does a bear live in the woods? Cuomo and his fellow gun grabbers will go after the new class of “felons” with communist religious zeal. Cuomo and his boys are now trying to fix the parts of this flawed law to get Hollywood and the cops on their team.

The only question now is when the excrement hits the moving fan blades and people start dying.

When the police show up to imprison you and take your Glock, what do you do?

You people in New York are behind enemy lines. If you’re staying in NY because you’re making money, your priorities are messed up. Your lives, the lives of your children are more important than worshipping mammon. Get yourself to a patriot blue state where every neighbor owns guns, and there’s a constitutional sheriff in the county ready with a battalion of armed deputies in reserve to react to “emergencies.”
