(CNSNews.com) First lady Michelle Obama is praising what has often been one of the lefts biggest targets, Walmart, for helping to fight obesity and food deserts in the United States.
At Walmart, you can believe that as Americas largest retailer, you have an obligation that goes far beyond the bottom line, Obama said Thursday at a Walmart in Springfield, Mo.
You know that every day, with the products you sell, youre helping parents get by on a budget -- which is what everybody in this country is trying to do. Youre helping kids get the nutrition they need to learn and grow and fulfill their God-given potential and those arent just business opportunities. Theyre moral obligations -- truly. Theyre responsibilities to the health of our families and the future of our next generation.
Mrs. Obama has made fighting obesity, particularly childhood obesity, her top cause as first lady. She talked about how Walmart, the nations largest retailer, has stepped up to offer healthier options, and she insisted that other retailers must do the same thing.
In the coming months and years, we need more American businesses to step up and meet those responsibilities, the first lady said. We need more companies to do what Walmart has done -- to dig deep and to find new ways to make money by giving families better information and healthier choices.
Many liberal organizations such as labor unions and President Barack Obamas base, have long criticized Walmart for its non-union stores. A top donor to Obamas campaigns, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) supported a nationwide protest against Walmart last November.
But on Thursday, Mrs. Obama was full of praise for Walmart:
You have opened 86 new stores -- one of the most important calls, most important work to eliminating food deserts, because youve opened these stores, including this one, in underserved communities, she said.
And now youve launched your Great for You seal that I got to see firsthand that helps customers immediately spot healthy items on the shelf -- so they dont have to spend hours poring over those fine-print labels that you can barely understand to figure out which foods are healthy and which ones arent.
Walmarts Great for You seal is a front-of-package icon that will appear on more than 1,300 Great Value and Marketside food and beverages sold in Walmarts U.S. stores.
Walmart also has committed itself to improve the nutritional quality of Walmarts Great Value brand and national food brands by reducing sodium by 25 percent, added sugars by 10 percent and removing all industrially produced trans fats by the end of 2015.
It has promised to increase Americans access to fresh, healthier and affordable food by opening between 275 and 300 new stores in urban and rural food deserts by the end of 2016.
And the retailer plans to help Americans better understand nutrition and healthier eating options by increasing its charitable support for nutrition programs.
Yeah. Like when it’s your $300k/year job at the University to convince poor people to go to a county hospital because they had no insurance.
That kind of “moral?” You. Bit.........$&@
The Congo butt Moocher is chastising Walmart that she herself obviously indulges in consuming her share of at food.
A common sense set of moral obligations would have the First Wookie STFU, shop at Walmart and stay in her gov’t funded housing waiting for her EBT to be recharged at the first of the month.
A budget...something Moochelle knows nothing about. And no, Michelle, I'm not taking back the box of Whoppers or Cadbury Creme Eggs I bought at Walmart's yesterday.
It is my moral duty to never darken their door again.
This con artist is telling people about WHO has a moral obligation to the country?
She is filthy.
OK, Walmart will stock it but will the people buy it?
Nice of Michelle to impose her moral code on others - who said the age of judgmentalism is dead???.....
Don’t shop at Wallmart so won’t have to eat or drink that crap!
Listening to Moochelle talking about somebody else’ “moral obligation” is vomit-inducing.
someone needs to muzzle the first wookie. seriously. wtf business is it of hers? NO BUSINESS.
When is this witch going to stop lecturing us?
She’s as bad as Nurse Bloomberg.
I have a hunch momma Obama is gearing up to run for president in 2016 (they are enjoying the perks of the WH too much to leave).
Of course she will have to beat Hillary and as such is attempting to befriend Hillary’s power base, Walmart.
Michelle Obama does not define morality.
Also, didn’t Michelle Obama shove the poor off onto other hospitals in her “job” in Chicago? How moral is that behavior?
I like when she said that she thought “liquor stores should stock MORE fruits and vegetables”. WHAT!!!!!
I have not been in a large number of liquor stores but I don’t recall seeing ANY fruits and vegetables in ANY of them!
Silly me. As a store, I thought their “moral obligations” began and ended with stocking stuff their customers wanted. These statist assholes really piss me off when they can’t shake the idea of behavior modification going bass ackwards! As customers/citizens it is WE who should be modifying THEIR behavior as stores and as governments, not the other way around.
A) Who elected or appointed this woman to any political office? (B) Who is she to determine where a company places a store of any kind? (C) When did we become a monarchy?
Maybe limes and green olives but that’s about it.
Walmart has been doing a fine job providing inexpensive healthy food to people without government help.
Enough so the government now feels a need to commandeer that success.
She needs to butt out.
What a crock....Our Walmart sells same old food that they’ve been selling for years. There is no healthy section.
Everybody? Certainly not the Obamas and friends. The White Hut grifters must not consider themselves in America or even remotely associated with America. But we knew that. Budgets are for little people. It's the Obamas who need to be sequestered.
The left has protected liberal stores by forbidding Walmart from entering their major cities.
Tens of millions of Americas are denied the right to shop at a Walmart grocery store.
Nanny State PING!
Nanny State PING!
The Obama’s support homosexual sex, homosexual marriage, killing babies, killing babies that didn’t die during the killing process... and on and on.
“Moral Obligations” is not something that cow should even be talking about.
“Mrs. Obama has made fighting obesity, particularly childhood obesity, her top cause as first lady.”
LOL!
Increasing enrollment in EBT to buy more junk food.
She’s the junk food queen LOL!
Nanny State PING!
What the hell is she doing at a Springfield Missourri Walmart and how much did this trip cost me?
Has she no idea how much we are spending to send her around the country? Thank God we aren’t paying by the pound, he ass alone would break the bank.
By the way Walmart sells the same stuff every other store does including candy and snack foods.
Walmart was IMHO one of the first to request a waiver of Obamacare. There's a reason for those "people of Walmart" emails.
Not a surprise: SEIU & Walmart unite behind Obamacare
Snip: June 30, 2009 Wal-Mart announced today that it was backing Obamas government health care plan. The discount retail giant was joined by the Service Employees International Union and the left-wing Center for American Progress.
Walmart dials back health care benefits for scores of workers
did Walmart stop selling ice cream, soda, chips, candy, pizza, beer and many other products? i generally do not shop at Walmart only as the last resort. Lets face it the nearest Walmart is 62 miles away. Locally, there are approximately 3 grocery stores within 15 miles. If I plan ahead i drive 62 miles go to Aldis and keep within a budget I can purchase more there than the 3 local grocery stores. I also stop at Menards, Shopko, and Home depot, see plan ahead. Aldis even sells the lactose free milk (lasts 30 days in refrigerator). I can never find any gluten free items at Walmart.
Likewise.
I drive 20 miles further, once a month just to avoid the attitude, general dumbassedness, and “never have what I want” anyway, that seems to prevail at the nearest Wal-mart superstore.
Not worth ruining MY attitude for the day.
A man walked into a bar and ordered martini after martini, each time removing the olives and placing them in a jar. When the jar was filled with olives and all the drinks consumed, the guy started to leave. "Excuse me", said a customer, who was puzzled over what the guy had done. "What was that all about?" "Nothing", said the guy, "My wife just sent me out for a jar of olives."
If this two faced bytch was serious she’d make them change food stamps so that only “healthy foods” can be bought.
walmart is sucking up to them because they make millions on food stamp transactions.
Ms. Michelle ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ 0bama won’t even let us eat cake!
Fracking Communist. They believe all people are stupid animals like them who need “leaders” to guide them, and treat them like children.
One question...
Why are there only 3 Walmarts in Moochies home city of 3,000,000?
Yeah, like Moose Bangs knows what it’s like to shop at Walmart.

When I looked into it 2 or 3 years ago, Los Angeles, New York city, San Diego, and many other cities, forbade Walmart supercenters.
The first time that I ran into a Walmart with vegetables was in New Mexico.
I just had some tacos made with Walmart ground beef, and I fart in her general direction!
I just shop Weis and Food Lion where I live. There is a local Wal-Mart (not as big as the average outlet). I might check out produce prices there, if that store actually sells some.
