On Thursday, the Idaho House unanimously passed a bill that would create an enhanced concealed carry permit, one that requires more training but also expands carry benefits for licensees who travel outside state borders.
Due to its relatively lax issuance standards, Idahos concealed carry permit is only recognized by 11 other states.
Under House Bill 192, gun owners would have the opportunity to take additional training, including an eight-hour safety course with a certified instructor that features live-fire instruction (minimum of 98 rounds) to obtain the enhanced permit, giving the applicant CCW reciprocity in as many as 40 other states.

I think this will help Idahoans that travel intrastate with concealed weapons, Rep. Vito Barbieri (R-Dalton Gardens) told the IdahoReporter.com.
The present system of having to get an Idaho license and then to obtain a separate concealed carry permit in other states is too cumbersome, he continued. Its about time we took care of this.
Rep. Gayle Batt (R-Wilder) who co-chairs the House State Affairs Committee echoed Barbieri thoughts, but added that the enhanced license would not replace the existing CCW permit.
Its important to note that this new permit would not replace or eliminate the existing permit that is issued in our state, Batt told the IdahoReporter.com.

Your thoughts?
It’s nothing but a tax
Shouldn’t have to do anything to be able to carry or to insure “reciprocity” The Constitution already says we all have the God-given RIGHT to carry. Whenever the government gets involved, no matter the intentions, and concocts an ‘enhanced” deal, the “enhancement” is extra costs and hoops to jump through to obtain something that belongs to you already.
Since the author got this basic fact wrong, what else is false in the article?
Reciprocity
These states recognize Idaho permits:
Alabama,
Alaska,
Arizona,
Arkansas,
Colorado,
Florida,
Georgia,
Indiana,
Iowa,
Kentucky,
Louisiana,
Michigan,
Missouri,
Montana,
Nebraska,
New Hampshire,
North Carolina,
North Dakota,
Ohio,
Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania,
South Dakota,
Tennessee,
Texas,
Utah,
Vermont,
Wisconsin,
Wyoming
Its being marketed as a benefit for more reciprocity, and that the current extremely easy to get permit will still be available and not change.
My personal thought is that a few years down the road the current permit will go away deemed “redundant” or “unneeded”. Suddenly Idaho doesn’t have an easy to get shall issue permit and instead has a liberal State “you can have as permit but its going to cost you a lot of time and money”
So I’m actually against the idea cause I don’t even trust my government here in Idaho to not cheat us somehow.
Yet, right-next-door Washington state doesn’t .
