In the long run their reputation's in the sewer and no one trust them. That 'no one' consist of readers and viewers who stop subscriptions and turn off the TV news.

The Houston Chronicle has foregone about $1500 in top-line income from me in newsstand purchases since mid-January 2007, when I put the paper down and swore I'd never pay to read it again. They'd just cut their staff by about half (on the basis of editor's favorites), and after I stopped reading it, they cut the paper itself in two and doubled the newsstand price.

I used to read the old Houston Post, which was the more liberal but more journalistically "active" paper (the Chron was in the pocket of The Boyz Downtown) and independent. They fired a featured writer who "came out" in a column (everyone knew by his screeding he was gay anyway, the SSoS, he needn't have bothered), and they had some sort of scruples. They were bought out in '94 when their publisher cleverly sold them to the Chron for a cool hundred mill -- then bragged to a closed dinner meeting of his fellow Harvard MBA (Master B@stards of Avarice) that he'd actually have sold for $45 mill less but gulled the Chron's owners out of the extra coin, so desperate were they to eliminate the competition and raise ad/subscription rates.

But after buying the Stump, the Chron moved to the Left in a strategeric High Mugwump Decision by the publisher, and they stopped carrying most of the conservative comment they'd cared to run previously and, having cut editorial column-inches drastically, found that basically the only people they wanted to run anymore were to the left of Frank Rich and Andrew Sullivan. Guyz like that. Paul Krugman, for example -- he and MoDo are the most biased writers in journalism, rivalled only by our own Ann of the Wobbly Gables. (Back then, Coulter was solidly conservative.)

Back in 2008 a group of home builders went to the Chronicle wanting to buy ads saying the economy was great in Houston and not to believe the negative national media. The Chronicle refused to sell them the ad space.

It’s scary to think about all the large corporations willing to destroy themselves in order to help obama.

Simply a suggestion....but if you were a big journalist in the mess...start a simple game. Refuse to use the word “Obama”, referring only to the “President”. Then let everyone know that you are going to see how many days you go do this. After two weeks....another journalist joins you. After a month....a hundred journalists refuse the use his name....only referring to the President.

You could start another game where no one reports on the White House for Tuesday and Thursday of each week.
