Looks like the Sequester Is Going to Happen (Update from Federal Worker)

Elections have consequences.

I won't say what military base I work at,but today my office was briefed about the impending sequestration. There were a few interesting points to come out of the meeting.

1. You have to take at least 8 hours a week LWOP (leave without pay). You cannot use sick or annual leave on those days off. You cannot take more then 30 hours a week because then you'd be able to apply for unemployment and the federal government is ensuring we can't utilize that avenue to supplement our income. So they take us but prevent us from taking from them. Smart.....

2. No more credit time, comp time, or overtime. If, in the performance of your job you're responsible for monitoring contractors, those contractors have to leave or you leave them unsupervised. Just imagine the legal entanglements that are soon to arise.

3. We have to take 176 hours, or 22 days, off with no pay (which we will NOT get back for all you who have been saying otherwise) between April 25 and September 22. If the sequester lasts longer and we end up taking more than 30 days of sequester then mandatory RIFs will take place and people will start losing their jobs.

That's the news as I have it now. I'll post more as it comes available. I'm going to bed, I can hardly keep my eyes open but I had to post this for all to see.

Ubama’s hatred for America, and for people who take responsibility for their own lives, is so great he will simply brush you off like dandruff. His goal at this point is to ensure that red states and white people pay a hefty price as the result of his childish tantrum.

Chin up. Things will get better, especially if the Republicans can pull their heads out of their behinds and get the stones to bitch-slap this punk Ubama the way he deserves and win the 2014 elections in large fashion.

This isn’t going to be fixed with furloughs.

That's a point many here are missing.

Every American that works for a living got a 2.4% tax increase - A BUDGET REDUCTION - on January 1. If we can deal with it why can’t the government?

I agree. Hell, I think we should immediately cut 1/3rd and put in a reward system for people to find and cut waste like several states have put in place.

The entire focus is bassackwards. In the private sector, you survive by reducing expenses and maximizing profit. In the government sector, you benefit by maximizing expenses and destroying value.

“That’s a point many here are missing.”

Nobody expects a complete solution. This one is a fake solution to be sure, but the hysterics of the bureaucracy and those entrenched within are so shrill and blood-curdling that next time nobody will pay any mind to the complaints.

The government, and the bureaucrats could have faced this honestly and directly. Instead they lie, they obfuscate and they pretend it’s the end of the world.

It’s not. You don’t hear the laments of the private sector layoff. Only government. We don’t need to hear the deafening whine of federal workers who, despite the poster of the thread’s insistence, will likely be paid in full anyway.

Good information.
I didn’t know the layoffs begin after 30 days of furloughs .
That is the first I heard of that.

That makes sense though.

Cavuto had a GOP Senator Colburn as a guest who claimed he found specific $45B in waste and crap in Defense that should be cut.

The taxpayers even pay for the Federal Employee Unions work having nothing to do with us.

Its war and so far the GOP has lost every one since after the 2010 elections.

Zippy has finally done something worthwhile.

They are getting just a tiny tiny sample of what the rest of us have endured the past 4 years.

Yep... listen to the screaming because of small reductions to the fedgov budget. Imagine these cuts taking place in the social entitlement programs. This is what we're up against when we want a smaller government. My family have made due with a smaller budget for a number of years now. Time for momma gubmint to deal.

Too many people in government just have no clue about the degree of suffering those who pay their salaries and giant pensions have endured for several years now. A few unwanted furlough days? Boo-hoo-hoo! Talk to the people in the private sector who, if they are fortunate enough to have any work, have seen multiple years of downward mobility while the feds have seen raises. (Perhaps we should call them the “well-feds.”) It is way past time for them to share in America’s pain. People are tired of being robbed blind by their “public servants.” The crowd in DC seems big on “reform” these days. Maybe what America really needs is federal employee pension “reform.” Do we really need to pay them not to work for 40 years? Can we afford to? They are paid on average more than private sector counterparts. Why can’t they save and invest for their own retirements, like all the peons who are taxed to support them?

I have to laugh at the people squealing like stuck piglets.

Those workers are dealing with the same apprehension and fear that the rest of us have dealt with over the past five years or so.

Welcome to our world. Sucks, doesn’t it?

Since things are tough all over, why not cease expenditures not spent 20 years ago or cut off regulations strangling all entrepreneurs from ever starting a business?

Instead you advocate cutting 25% of low wage earner’s income in functions which are the only ones required of government.
This places them all in debt and prohibits their seeking part time work to make up the difference.

As if this were not absurd enough, we are told up front our sacrifices are neither appreciated nor do they have any effect on reducing the budget deficit.

Here’s a simple alternative.
Cease all Social Security, Housing, Welfare, Environmental, and Education programs or slaughter those on their rolls to receive their handouts and those administering them. Let those people enter into the free market and commerce. Let them learn how to enter into a contract to render a service or product in return for a day’s wage. As an alternative, place those who are receiving government handouts the opportunity to surrender everything and become slaves for barter with foreign powers, losing their nationality as well as their rights to practice homosexuality.

Just one very small example: A woman in a fed job, they are supposed to be saving money so they are ordered not to print anything in color, they can’t even use the colored cartridges they already have?!

It is amazing the things that they are forced to do that amount to nothing. There are 2 people in that office and they need 4 more because of all the stupid stuff that doesn’t come near to what they are supposed to be there for. If one person could just go and do the job that is actually supposed to be done and do it right w/o the running in circles they could get the job done working half days.

Like I’m gonna cry for some under-worked over-paid Govt Slackers! Try being a small business man with this Regime’s daily harassment. The best damned thing that can happen for this country is to have all Fed so-called workers go home for permanently.

Actually it will. OPM (Office of Personnel Management) has decreed that all impacted Federal employees will transition to a 8 hour a day schedule and take every Friday as Leave Without Pay. No local discretion. You cannot even work 5 & 3 in the same pay period, even if it would be of benefit to the government. OPM does not trust the lower escholons of the government to do it right.
