Senate GOP ponders ceding power to President Obama (BE CAREFUL, this *IS* Politico)
Politico ^ | By MANU RAJU and DAVID ROGERS

Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8.

The five- page document, which has the tacit support of Senate GOP leaders, represents a remarkable shift for the party. Having railed against Senate Democrats for not passing a budget, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year.

Be careful, this is Politico, and they have a habit of lying outright.

However, if this is true: Between this and the Hagel vote, it is clear that Republicans hold all the same views as Democrats, except for the 'winning lots of elections' thing.

Doesn’t that bring us full-circle back to the Line Item Veto (which was already declared to be unconstitutional by SCOTUS?)

McConnell has been hiding in the weeds and getting ready to drop something. No leadership or credible opposition from him at all. What a dirtbag he is.

I think it’s safe to say no one heeded your headline warning, which was my first impulse - to check the source. Time will tell....but many leap before looking around here...

Haven’t they essentially already done that?

They haven’t successfully defeated or even stood up to Obama on anything.

it brings us back to PRE-NIXON sequestration where it was assumed to be a Presidential prerogative to not spend all the appropriate funds.

The Democrats imagined at the time that they should have FULL FUNDING so they automatically opposed any effort for sequestration. Through their control of Congress they finally passed a law prohibiting the President from doing it on his own, and then they allowed outside groups to take the whole issue to court.

Congress appears to have the Constitutional power to control sequestration with or without the President, and they can also allow the President to 'jus do it'.

The Democrats are giving up on this one too easily ~ but I can hear Teddy Kennedy rolling over in his grave ~ the line item veto you mentioned was supposed to be a way back to Presidential sequestration power ~ but the court said 'yo'all cain't do it that way neither'.

Republicans: the incredible shrinking party !!

Fighting amongst themselves in a race towards obscurity !!

Can you predict how quickly they will disappear ??

Also remember that while we fully expect the no-ball bastard RINO Republicans in the Senate to puss out, the ‘deal’ still has to go through the House.

It galls me that the Senate takes the lead on fiscal things like this when the Constitution delegates that authority to the House of Representatives. Technically, the Senate cannot originate a spending bill.

I call bull shit on this article. If we should believe this then why has Congress been holding back the “One” from spending the last several months? Remember the “One” wants to make “Pubbies” a thing of the past and this article is a damn good start!

With any other president, I might support this gridlock-breaking idea, assuming it was done with full transparency so that the president could be held accountable. I would expect any other president given this power to act, roughly speaking, in the interests of the United States of America.

With this one, not so much.

This move is transparent, and too clever by half. They think they can make Obama govern. That will not be happening. They have the right idea, in that they FINALLY are trying to make him own it, but this stunt won’t do any good at all.

Hey, how much could the DEms possibly spend in 7 months?

Let ‘em have the reins, we’ll keep the ammo.

"--the ‘deal’ still has to go through the House--"

Consider this however. Pelosi could be considered the defacto Speaker of the House. The Rat caucus and 20 or so go along to get a long GOPe Rinos can totally neuter the conservative leaning GOP house members, especially with the lack of leadership by Boehner. Game, set, and match for Obama. Of course the bill giving in to the 0ne would have to be passed first before we can know what is in it.

If this turns out to be true, why not just stop paying the Senate for not doing their job? Just dissolve the whole thing with their staff, sell off the building, vehicles, aircraft, etc and I’m sure we could save all kinds of cash.

If we are going to have open borders, let’s dismantle Homeland Security and Border Patrol.

If we’re going to crash, let’s crash HARD, killing everyone on board!
