Senate GOP ponders ceding power to President Obama (BE CAREFUL, this *IS* Politico)
Politico ^ | By MANU RAJU and DAVID ROGERS

Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8.

The five- page document, which has the tacit support of Senate GOP leaders, represents a remarkable shift for the party. Having railed against Senate Democrats for not passing a budget, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year.

I didn't say that the House couldn't be maneuvered into a sellout, especially with that crying baby BONER. He still is the Speaker and supposed to call the shots, but there are still some Conservative recalcitrants in the House that could raise holy hell and stop this thing if they persevered.

If this turns out to be true, why not just stop paying the Senate for not doing their job? Just dissolve the whole thing with their staff, sell off the building, vehicles, aircraft, etc and I’m sure we could save all kinds of cash.

Agreed. In other words, let's just have the Reichstag fire without all the flames and burning and smoke and stuff.

I believe Politico as a source better than most. They have plenty of inside information.

It confirms what I have sensed all along. The Reps are starting to panic. They are the ones coming up with all of the alternatives. They are again negotiating with themselves.

They should just do nothing and ask the President and Reid to come up with a plan. Otherwise the miniscule cuts should go forward. We all know that this does not bind subsequent Congresses and that much of money will be restored under the CR negotiations.

Obama and the Dems are sending a clear message. No spending cuts will be tolerated--however small. It is meant to intimidate the Reps from making any further "cuts" without including tax increases on the "rich."

Kinda hard to get things done when you control 1/3 of the Government and the other side controls 2/3 of the Government.. Just saying.

Sadly, we have seen this train wreck before. McConnell lives for these complicated deals. I get worried when he is so quiet. He should have been with Boehner at the presser smacking the kenyan. But when McConnell is hiding under his desk something bad is always around the corner.

Yes.

They are already gone.

And if it was not for Ronald Reagan, they would never have even existed.

Kinda hard to get things done when you have no fight. The kenyan said we will cause sick kids to starve. Them’s fightin’ words. Yet nothing from the GOP about that vile demagoguery. NOTHING. And you want to give them a medal for that?

Who in the hell are you calling dummy? The facts are the facts. The HOUSE has to originate all fiscal spending bills, period. In practice, the Senate often takes the initiative and passes something, but it still has to pass through the House gate with the HOUSE recommending passing in conference what the Senate has proposed. If you were to look at the language of these conferences, you’d see the House is the one that finally approves. Call yourself a dummy

Worst thing that can happen to any elected politician at the federal level is for the federal government to get smaller. They have a vested interest in growing the scope and size of the federal government. Unless it would mean losing their jobs at the ballot box, federal-level elected Republicans will always side with Democrats on growing the state.

Always.

I’m just stating the facts... BILLS HAVE BEEN COMING FROM THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE HAS REFUSED TO BRING IT TO A VOTE... Dumb Ass.

It’ll never happen - the democraps won’t fall for that. No way barky would take the fall and have to hand pick the programs that he’s cutting $85 billion from. First off that would mean he’d have to work, and we know he’s not going to do that. Second, then every dollar cut would be pinned on him - no way for him to blame anybody else.

Nice try for the rope-a-dope from the pubbies, but forget about it.

Evidently, you cannot read. I explained the US Constitution requirements and what happens in practice through conference. The fact that you persist in calling an opposing view a derogatory name (e.g., Dummy and now ‘dumb ass’) only reinforces the fact that you cannot comprehend simple information.

Maybe the strategy is to let obama own it all and take the fall for the economy.

Exactly. You've got it; most posters on this thread are clueless.

And this is not the first time this has been proposed contrary to what Politico is saying. The GOP has already been saying this but Bambi has not taken the bait.
