Hikind apologizes for wearing blackface at Purim party - says offending anyone 'was not the intention'
Assemblyman Dov Hikind apologized this afternoon for donning blackface at his blowout Purim party, after spending all morning defending his outrageous getup.
The joyous Jewish celebration of Purim can often involve Halloween-type costumes and Hikind didn’t spare any detail in his curious retro look.
He wore brown face paint, sunglasses, an Afro wig and an orange jersey, in his bid to look like a 70s hoops star.
“To anyone who was offended, I’m sorry,” Hikind said. “That was not the intention.”
The powerful Brooklyn Democrat added: “If I had to do It all over again, I would certainly found something, another costume to wear.”
Several mayoral hopefuls weighed in on Hikind’s strange fashion faux pas, none with more to lose than Bill Thompson.
The former city comptroller, who is black, has deep Brooklyn roots and strong ties to Orthodox voters, who he’s actively courting.
Thompson walked a tightrope today, calling for Hikind to apologize while also praising the assemblyman’s past work.
“For years, Assemblyman Dov Hikind has played a crucial role in bringing together leaders from the African American, Jewish, and other communities to stand against racism and anti-Semitism,” Thompson said...

Hikind’s faux pas was at a private party, Foxx’s statement was before hundreds of thousands of people/viewers.
The old liberal double standard is at it again.
A professional politician from NYC who lives in a total world of liberal media and he had never heard what would happen for wearing black face, he managed to seek out and obtain makeup a wig and props and wardrobe for it, and no one he approached had ever heard of the consequences of black face and mentioned it to him, or expressed concern?
What kind of weird bubble can a big city democrat politician live in, to not know something so basic?
I am not Jewish, so can someone explain what wearing blackface has to do Purim? I thought it was something to do with Queen Esther... not Aunt Esther.

That isn’t blackface it’s brownface.
He was posing as a Hybrid .
That wasn’t even close to blackface.
It is no worse than Michelle wearing a white womans bangs.
There is a simple way to analyze Dov Hykind’s sincerity. Ask him if he would be offended at the prospect of a black in whiteface and false beard attending a Halloween party dressed as an Orthodox Rabbi.
