Democrats Plan To Pay Second Amendment Protesters Gets Shot Down
Mental Recession ^ | 02/25/2013

A ‘Second Amendment Rally’ is being held in Albany this Thursday the 28th, and will feature National Rifle Association President David Keene, and various other speakers opposed to new gun legislation passed last month in New York state.

The Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013 currently hails as the single most restrictive assault on Second Amendment rights in the country, and was forced through the legislative process without public review – a tactic that even Governor Cuomo admits was the only way to enact the law.

As a counter to the massive Second Amendment support being demonstrated by New Yorkers, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) started to organize their own counter protest. The SEIU has strong ties to Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg and the state Democratic Party.

But they weren’t alone. That effort garnered support from the Obama campaign arm, Organizing For America (OFA), which also made announcements regarding the counter protest. Together, the SEIU and OFA, an organization who recently changed its mission statement to specifically say they will not “be involved in any way in … partisan political activity“, announced they would pay protesters to take a trip to Albany to battle the evil NRA. Payment would involve the cost of the bus trip, as well as free meals for breakfast and lunch.

Here is the SEIU announcement on their site:

Does “Organizing for America” pay taxes?

If they are tax-exempt, arent they supposed to NOT be involved in partisan political activities?

What about PAC’s ? How is income to those roganizations treated? They are by definition political, right?

One of the reasons I carry concealed is to protect myself from SEIU goons. A loss for them is a win for us...

Under the federal tax code 501(c)(4) the group will have tax-exempt status as long as it is not primarily involved in activity that could influence an election. As a nonprofit, it can run support ads for an issue as long it is not involved in activity aimed at electing candidates for office.

501(c)(4) organizations may lobby for legislation, and unlike 501(c)(3) organizations they may also participate in political campaigns and elections, as long as its primary activity is the promotion of social welfare. The tax exemption for 501(c)(4) organizations applies to most of their operations, but contributions may be subject to gift tax, and income spent on political activities - generally the advocacy of a particular candidate in an election - is taxable.

Contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations are usually not deductible as charitable contributions for U.S. federal income tax, with a few exceptions. 501(c)(4) organizations are not required to disclose their donors publicly.

The lack of disclosure has led to extensive use of the 501(c)(4) provisions for organizations that are actively involved in lobbying, and has become controversial. Criticized as “dark money,” spending from these organizations on political TV ads has exceeded spending from Super PACs.

The Mystery of the Pro-Obama Dark-Money Group

The 2012 campaign’s most secretive nonprofit wasn’t Crossroads GPS or Americans for Prosperity—it was the Democrats’ Priorities USA.

In the world of political money, Democrats like to cast themselves as the defenders of transparency and crusaders against corruption. They’ve asked the IRS to investigate big-spending nonprofit groups such as Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, and they’ve lead the effort in Congress to pass the DISCLOSE Act, which would’ve forced politically active nonprofits to reveal their major donors. Yet one of the most secretive dark-money groups of the 2012 campaign season was allied with the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer, President Obama.

Founded by former Obama White House aides Bill Burton and Sean Sweeney, this shadowy outfit is known as Priorities USA. If the Priorities name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the sister group of the flagship pro-Obama super-PAC, Priorities USA Action. (Yes, the two names are confusing. From here on, any mention of Priorities refers to the dark-money nonprofit.) Organized under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code, like the Sierra Club and the National Rifle Association, Priorities USA can legally hide the identities of its donors, but it can’t spend the majority of its money on pure politics.

While it is unclear who would be paying those expenses (my best guess would be that money would come out of union dues), both organizations appear to have decided that paying protesters, is in reality a pretty bad idea … for now anyway.

The SEIU on Sunday deactivated the sign up link, and OFA has also pulled their link. Clicking on it now brings you to a page that reads, “The URL you clicked references an event that does not exist.”

Additionally, the 1199 SEIU of Central NY Facebook page has announced the counter rally will be “postponed”.

You have to follow the story jump down below the video and other crap.

P-poor story. The cancellation bit ought to be the first line not the last.

The Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013 currently hails as the single most restrictive assault on Second Amendment rights in the country

just wait, the commie socialist legislature and the commie governor in Kalifornia will not let any other state OUT COMMUNIST them when it comes to their crapping on the Constitution, especially the Second Amendment. Currently: no magizine capacity more than 10 rounds, background checks on ALL firearms purchases, All firearms transfers must involve a Federal firearms licensee, No 50 cal firearms sales in state and the list of restriction goes on and will undoubtly get worse in the very near future.

Under Pete Wilson and AG Danny Lungren, Kalifornia has already done the gun grab shuffle. Promising there would be no confiscation to follow they initiated a mandatory REGISTRATION of the SKS rifle and within a two year period following, they criminalized the possession of an SKS and confiscated those that were registered.

Government paying protestors? Sounds a lot like the way the Brownshirts worked in pre-NAZI Germany.
