Boehner better watch out. He might get a shoe thrown at him. Either from a reporter or a conservative.
I’m really hoping the sequester happens.
And I want the republicans to take credit for it. This is the first of the steps necessary to prevent us from hitting absolute bottom.

I too am hopeful Boehner will do the right thing. And I believe he will.
..... Of course if this country actually survives the end of the Obama Calendar on March 1st ..... we will find that the reason this country didn't collapse is because of the incredible leadership capabilities of our Dear Leader and also because the bean counters miscalculated the date and then insist that the end of all things will definitely happen a week or two later. Well ... that is ... if the Republicans don't stop their unpatriotic treasonous stonewalling.
The Rats are trying to scare people about the budget cuts, well now maybe the Repubs will scare people about what happens if there are no cuts. That is my hope.
Yep. 85% of the American public believes we have a spending problem. If the Republicans stick to their guns and actually do something for US rather than Washington, people will FINALLY have some one to vote FOR.
Even though this is all theater for the uninformed voter (there are no "cuts" in spending), at least it looks like the Republicans are on the working citizens side of this debate for once,
Love the analogy....how true
“Lets start a poll on which minute of Boneheads speech will contain his surrender to the Obamadork/felon/cretin.
Boehner is slime. Gutless slime. Cojoneless slime.
Pure and unadulterated drunken slime.”
Lets me honest, you just described every politician.

Sadly, I expect another 11th hour agreement. The reason? Because in reality the parties are in this thing together. Their differences are mainly theater at this point. Both parties are all about the status quo.
This was made clear when we had a republican president and the R’s controlled the house and senate. They still spent like the drunken sailors they are.
I hope I am wrong. We’ll know in a few days.
The trouble is that noboby(not even here on FR)wants it to come out of THEIR wallet.
It’s worse than that. The reason we are in this mess is that so many people on BOTH sides have been voting their wallets for many decades.
I too am hopeful Boehner will do the right thing. And I believe he will.
McConnell and Boehner have made little effort to prep the battlefield. Nothing really different than what they have done in the past. Sorry but don’t get your hopes up this time is any different.
Yep. They dance together. Two steps forward, one step back.
The left pushes ahead two steps. They go too far. They demand an agreement. The Republicans agree, and the two come up with a bipartisan agreement. The left gets half of what it wanted. The right gets nothing.
That's -2 for liberty (because the issue should have been moot in the first place and not even acknowledged), +1 for "bipartisan" socialism. The left is still one step ahead every time.
The incramentalism adds up. That's how we got into the mess we're in today.
Is it true he has been saving up tears all this week ? bOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I remember when $85B was a lot of money. Who would have thought that it is now chump change. We can survive with this modest “cut” which really isn’t a cut in the first place. The history of the Obama Administration will be found in the fiction section of the Library of Congress.
Well put....something in the 2% area is what I think I’ve heard...
Will he cry and then cave?
Yep. Not to sound too negative, but when Bush Jr. was elected in 2000, I could see the way the country was headed. Ridiculous concepts were being discussed as though they had one whit of merit, and sometimes actually being embraced by the majority. I said then that Bush’s election merely put off the inevitable for four more years.
Fast forward to today. The stuff being argued and allowed is beyond the comprehension of people living 50 years ago. It’s insanity on parade. And it will not end well, as is already apparent to anyone paying attention.
But it is happening as described in so much of biblical prophecy. The good news is that in the end the good Guy wins.
Will he cry and then cave?

It's always this way.
In a very true sense, Boehner is worse than Obama.

Let’s watch all the hate fired at Boehner...
Who hates Boehner more, Obama or the screechers on Free Republic?
How about calling this guy’s office and encouraging him?
How about calling our local media, and telling them we are voters who KNOW Obama is responsible for this sequester?
How about telling our neighbors and low information voter friends and co-workers that the REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE HAVE PASSED TWO DIFFERENT ALTERNATIVES to the across the board budget cuts—targeted cuts—and that the Senate Democrat party refused to vote on them?
How about doing something PRODUCTIVE instead of lashing out at Boehner, who SO FAR has held his ground?
Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. Wet blankets don’t fold too good. More likely he’ll fold like an accordion, seeing as how he’s got pleats worked into him from folding so often. Probably practices in a mirror.
I expect to read that Boehner will agree to everything the Dems want while saying that it’s the right thing for the country and he’s not really agreeing to everything they want because yadda-yadda-yadda. Later this evening he and the Dems will have an expensive dinner together.
It wouldn't matter who was Speaker. One false word and "RINO" would be his/her moniker ever after.
I had to laugh when Gingrich was the White Knight on FR (newly minted for those who weren't around when he fell from grace years ago) until he made his weak gay marriage statement recently. LOL!
Presser underway now. Does not sound like they will fold.
Do they really need all these people in front of the camera? Just put two or three credible people (if they can find that many) out there with a powerful message and then shut up!
I’m tired of them calling this a “spending cut”. If I was on a budget I couldn’t spend more money and tell my hubby that I saved him 3%!!
that was it?
It was enough for me, they planted it right in Obamas garden.....GO BOEHNER AND STAND FIRM
It’s 4:15 . . . is he crying yet?
Well, that is a relief. There was really no reason at all to cave. Obama had the tax cuts and the sequester was his idea of a balanced approach. No public pressure because this was presumably what people voted on in November.
He will assume the BOHICA pose he knows and loves so well
‘Cause that’s what he does best.
For the first time we have the upperhand. O already got his 1% tax hike so he has lost that political capital. That argument has lost its power.
We have another debt ceiling hike coming up and now the GOP has laid the precedent that the WH has to give something in return for that.
The landscape has changed.
I think you need to step out of the echo chamber.
The cuts are going to be blamed on the GOP. The military and DOD cuts are making many of the former GOP voters very mad.
This was a very dumb move.
It is now 1830 Eastern.
What did he say?
Sheesh, I'm dying for some comments and analysis.
Leni
...with many rounds of drinks to follow...
Did he come out with a white flag?
Not sure which move was dumb....agreeing to the sequester in the first place, or not caving now. With the former, I agree. The fall of 2011 has shown to be what many of us thought it was...a complete bumbling by the congress with the stupid super committee theatrics and guaranteed defense cuts.
Now, I don’t know what this crew can do to retain a political victory. Obama will only compromise if it includes tax increases. Our side won’t and shouldn’t do that. With a better messaging team, this group could gain ground on the Dems, but I don’t see them doing it. The fact that Boehner has a widely publicized press conference and no clear message out of it to gain political footing tells me all I need to know. This crew can’t win no matter what their tactic.
Boy that was a non-event.
What event?
Oh never mind. wish I hadnt even told me wife about it now.
Why bother? We already know that he, Cantor, and McConnell and the rest of the GOP leadership will cave like they always do.
85% of Americans think that all those 800,000 jobs that are going to loose 20% plus of their salaries are all in Washington. What happens when they discover that 75% of those jobs are spread throughout the country, mostly in red states. And that is just Defense related. I was listening to impact for Homeland Security. They also have a lot of personnel which will also have these 20% plus salary/hours cuts. Coast guard, border patrol, shipping examination, border crossing, etc. The last two will be significantly slowed down. The first two will actually be out there doing less. etc. etc.
you know gleeaikin, perhaps there is a path back to the Constitution once one realizes there is only a provision for defense held within that document. Someone once said ... do not remove the safety net ... couldn’t help but laugh under my breath and think ... sorry ... there is no safety net contained therein except for defense. Was in mixed company at the time, and glad I did not blurt it out.
