An Army veteran in New York is facing up to seven years in prison for possessing five empty 30-round ammunition magazines.
Nate Haddad told WGRZ-TV he was parked on a road last month waiting to meet someone interested in buying them off him when police approached. According to the station, the magazines were for an AR-15 rifle, the same type of weapon Haddad once carried in combat. Magazines over 10 rounds have been illegal in New York since 1994, unless they were manufactured before the law went into effect. Haddad says he thought his were legal, until he found out otherwise.
“I certainly did not think I was committing a felony crime by having these,” Haddad told WGRZ. “My understanding of what I had in my possession was that it was manufactured before 1994, but the arresting officers told me otherwise after I showed them the magazines that I had in my possession.”

Seven years? You can only get more than that in NY by teasing a dog, yelling at your kids, or giving the finger to an obama sticker.

You could argue that ‘Animal Farm’ is related to the left’s calling police “pigs” but Orwell would actually have regarded the well heeled, tenured leftists as the pigs.
I was in the Army in the late ‘80s to late ‘90s.
We called the standard magazine exactly that - a magazine.
But we called the 30 round magazines a ‘banana clip’. Like so many things dealing with guns, nomenclatures are mis-used repeatedly until they become normalized.
I’d love to know what they’re called in the Army today....I’m guessing banana clip is still used.

NEVER, EVER volunteer anything to the police. NEVER accede to a search without a warrant or the officer’s declaration that exigent circumstances exist for doing such - even then, declare yourself that the search is involuntarily on your part.
True,but the item on the left is commonly called a ‘stripper clip’.... additionally, what one might call a ‘magazine’ for a Garand is technically called an “En Bloc Clip”......

I'm going to start learning about guns. My husband died 2 yrs ago and left a 38 revolver, but I want a gun with a magazine - for protection. I'm getting concerned about losing our rights to protect ourselves. Funny I would never buy a gun if it were not for the libs talking about restricting our rights. BTW, my husband also had a little semi automatic pistol (my brother has it right now)- it takes .25 bullets. I think it is a colt but not sure at all. Do u think it would be good for protection? Should I have an extra clip/magazine for this pistol?
It is not for nothing that the state motto of New York is The Empire State. I left and I am never moving back. They can kiss the jobs that my business creates goodbye. But for socialists like they have in New York, they would rather die than give people liberty. And since they are on the same trajectory as Detroit, that is exactly what might happen.
Yes...I will be vacating California as soon as I can. These people are robbing our hard won rights as free people. They are the very same types that George W. and company had to fight and kill for 8 long years to win this once free nation. How dare they!
Ask around at more than one local gun store about a qualified instructor and he can help you select the best firearm for your needs.
A .25 pistol shoots a pretty small bullet that often doesn’t do enough immediate damage to stop an attacker. A .38 is much more likely to stop an attack. People who are less mechanically inclined tend to find revolvers easier to operate under stress. A semi-automatic pistol has several failure modes that a revolver does not, such as failure to feed. Revolvers hold only 5 or 6 bullets while a semi-auto pistol can hold more. Moreover, a person with less gripping power finds the slide of a semi-auto difficult to correctly operate, while a pistol requires far less strength. And so on. You just need to find someone who can help you decide based on your personal abilities and needs.
I think most knowledgable firearms enthusiasts would rate the .25 ACP as the very least desireable self-defense firearm. If in fact it is a Colt, it's probably the 1908 Vest Pocket model, and if it's in decent condition it's worth far more as a collector piece than a personal protection weapon.
Would I volunteer to be shot by a .25 to prove how ineffective it is? Absolutely not. However, if I was told I was going to be shot with a conventional commercial firearm, and had my choice of what I was going to be shot with, I would choose the .25.

These are the same besmirching comments placed upon vets in the late 60’s and early 70’s. I am not old enough to recall how the preditory goverment reacted to those returning from WW2 or Korea so I don’t know if this is a trend that began after Korea or not.
My advice to our esteemed leaders now and in the future, if you cannot abide by the knowledge that war is hell don’t send them off to fight in any wars if you are incapable of abiding by the affects they may have on them or plan to discriminate against them when they return from service.

WWII vets were considered as heros when they returned,(although now 67 years after the war there are Leftists and media trying to dredge up claims of so-called “war crimes” committed against our enemies.
Korea vets were neglected by the public and media when they returned from “The Forgotten War.”
Vietnam vets were the first war veterans to be widely, constantly defamed and abused for years afterwards by the media and the public when they returned.

Please don’t rely on me or any other Freepers, friends or relatives for specific advice. Please go to a reputable gun store and get advice and training on your firearm.

The 2nd Amendment does not designate any weapon as ‘illegal’.
And paper receipts proving product purchase date(s) mean nothing, since mags have no serial numbers to tie them to the paper receipts. Still, I keep all of mine in files in the Gunsafe.
