Billionaire has unique role in official Washington: climate change radical
Washington Post ^ | 17 February 2013 | Juliet Eilperin

When Thomas Steyer — a San Francisco billionaire and major Democratic donor — discusses climate change, he feels as if one of two things is true: What he’s saying is blindingly obvious, or insane.

It’s a somewhat shocking statement for someone who’s in the running to succeed the cerebral Steven Chu as energy secretary. Granted, he’s a long shot — the leading contender is MIT professor Ernest Moniz, who served as the department’s undersecretary during the Clinton administration — but his backers say his strength lies in combining business savvy with an activist’s passion.

But it’s not as if Steyer, 55, needs an official government perch to make an impact. Armed with his wealth and his political connections, Steyer has played a critical behind-the-scenes role in helping shape the country’s national energy policy. He has helped bankroll two successful ballot initiative campaigns in California since 2010, including one last fall that closes a corporate tax loophole and steers $500 million toward energy-efficiency projects for each of the next five years. He has funded initiatives at the Brookings Institution and the Center for American Progress, along with major research centers at Yale and Stanford. And he has spoken with President Obama about how to pursue climate and energy policy in a second term.

But Steyer is taking on a more prominent public role..“I’m not the first person you’d expect to be here today. I’m not a college professor and I don’t run an environmental organization,” he said. “For the last 30 years I’ve been a professional investor and I’ve been looking at billion-dollar investments for decades and I’m here to tell you one thing: The Keystone pipeline is not a good investment.”

Well he's got one thing right: The Keystone pipeline is not a good investment.

That has nothing to do with environmental objections, it's just a ponzi scheme.

The Keystone pipeline won't get billions in subsidies like windmills.

“Climate change”..There’s that phrase again. What use to be called “global warming” but what I like to call “The CO2 hoax to enrich Al Gore” because that’s how allll this started.

A few months ago Al Gore was worth $100 million. Now they have his net worth at $300 million.

http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-politicians/democrats/al-gore-net-worth/

CO2, a necessary gas for life to exist on earth which has a percentage of 0.04% in the earths atmosphere which you can literally call zero point zero. Al Gore incredibly has convinced people that a percentage of zero point zero is too high. Read that again because that is exactly why this tub of pig excrement is worth $300 million.

We who believe it’s hokum are the radicals. The nutjobs are the ones in the mainstream these days.

Warren Buffett has already demonstrated that you can be a successful investor and be very wrong-headed at the same time. We don’t need another lesson on this.

Why would you say it is just a ponzi scheme? Have you never looked at the money laundering schemes of the windmills and solar companies and environmental projects? You need to educate yourself.

Republicans need to reframe the debate. Globull Warming and Climate Change is just a way to steal our tax money. It’s really called pollution and Republicans should be blaming middle east oil and Chinese and Russian coal production.

By saying cleaner American energy production will solve the problem, things like Keystone and other energy initiatives can be promoted and Democrats will have to either go along or continue the lie.

The energy lie can easily be debunked by Republicans. They just need the cajones.

Both are ponzi schemes. The money is made by the early investors, later ones will lose.

“he feels as if one of two things is true: What he’s saying is blindingly obvious, or insane.”

Um, we should pay attention to someone who admits there’s a fifty percent chance his views are insane?

If he admits it is a possibility, I’d like to hear his reason(s) why he thinks it is a possibility. Should be interesting. Too bad the reporter didn’t ask that obvious follow-up question. Just moved on, after dropping that bombshell.

How do you like this - The other night I was watching Jeopardy, and behold: Somehow the pig excrement had weaseled his way onto the show to further the hoax. I couldn’t believe it. I got so ticked off I actually wrote the producers a letter asking them to invite me on for a rebuttal.

Republicans need to reframe the debate. Globull Warming and Climate Change is just a way to steal our tax money.

Here in the upper midwest I would point to the amazing abundance of hydroelectric potential in the form of existing dams. Depending on the dam, a small hydro generating plant costs around 1/4 more than erecting a windmill but produces as much (Dependable and consistent) electricity as a half dozen windmills. Also a hydroelectric generation plant doesn't need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years. Hydro works every day all day. The lake here is froze over and guys are ice fishing but the dam next to my house is still dumping a couple thousand gallons per second.

If I were a congressman I would be loudly questioning the real reason for destroying dams and the proven energy production methods only to replace them with expensive and inefficient windmills.

BTW one added bonus of hydro is the fact that it creates wealth as a side effect in the form of high dollar lakefront real estate, fishing, boating and other water related recreational activities.

Since liberals are incapable of recognizing, understanding, realizing, comprehending or accepting the "truth" that means he, along with millions like him, are insane.

This reminds me of the little Rascals episode where Petey gets thrown into the pound and Weezer is crying to get him out and this rich lady comes and says “Oh little boy what is the matter?” And Weezer tells her what happened and he says it will cost 2 dollars to get him out. “2 dollars? Is that all?” LOL!
