Majority of U.S. citizens say illegal immigrants should be deported

More than half of U.S. citizens believe that most or all of the country's 11 million illegal immigrants should be deported, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday that highlights the difficulties facing lawmakers trying to reform the U.S. immigration system.

The online survey shows resistance to easing immigration laws despite the biggest push for reform in Congress since 2007.

Thirty percent of those polled think that most illegal immigrants, with some exceptions, should be deported, while 23 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be deported.

Only 5 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States legally, and 31 percent want most illegal immigrants to stay.

These results are in line with other polls in recent years, suggesting that people's views on immigration have not changed dramatically since the immigration debate reignited in Congress last month, according to Ipsos pollster Julia Clark.

"It's not Americans' views that are shifting. It is that the political climate is ripe for this discussion," after the November election when Hispanics voted overwhelmingly in favor of Democratic President Barack Obama, she said.

"Democrats feel that the time is right to capitalize on their wins and Republicans feel that they had a bad blow and are eager to reach out to Hispanics," she added.

Polls show that most Americans back immigration reform, although they often have different ideas of what that means, with some people favoring looser immigration laws while others want to see greater border security.

A group of eight U.S. senators are working on a bipartisan deal to enact immigration reform, the first major attempt since a similar overhaul died in Congress six years ago.

Only if they’re caught headed in any direction other than the border they came in through.

It would be amazing what would happen to our nation if current law would be enforced. It is amazing the number of new laws that get proposed because existing law isn't enforced.

With that said, deport all illegal aliens. I don't care if it takes a decade or two. Reagan had is deal and got ripped offed by Rats 30 years ago. It has only got worse since then.

Just enforce current law.

In the old days (back when The Constitution was still in effect) the majority ruled. Now it’s political correctness and affirmative action - that’s how we got a foreign dictator in the oval office.

Arrest them and their family. Seize ALL their assets. Deport them. They are invaders.

Have a nice day, Citizens.

The Americans in fly over country USA ... Americans with a true perspective of what made this country what it was, not what it is today, are drowned out by the liberal media.
This country is lost, it has lost its soul ...

Yet the filthy liars at USA Today have a huge front page poll showing the vast majority of Americans agree with Obama on this, and every other issue.

We were established as a Republic--it was a representational government rather than a direct democratic one, but for the most part, the legislators represented us or got replaced. Now, the legislators have a very high chance of re-election, so they feel less compelled to represent us in their self-interest.

Instead, it is as you say--we have a specialized ruling class that is largely taken by PC and AA, and has little responsiveness to the electorate (or at least that portion that isn't hopelessly dumbed down.)

Majority of U.S. citizens say illegal immigrants should be deported

Although I agree with the statement, that is totally bogus headline, since it can be too easily challenged.

"Majority of U.S. citizens [with skin in the game, i.e. pay net income taxes] say illegal immigrants should be deported" would be accurate.

Almost 100% of the indolent Obama parasites disagree with honest sentiment behind the headline.
If you don't have the knowledge, experience and historical perpective to see that as obvious, then you are part of the problem.

Most, if not all, the "immigration reform" minded in Congress fail to acknowledge that those coming here illegally, or overstaying their Visas, do so, not for the freedom and opportunity that former legal immigrants sought but for free government goodies, forcibly obtained from U.S. taxpayers.

Especially those advertised by our own government agencies to foreign countries (Mexico!)

That practice should halt immediately!

This could be demanded by the TEA Party, killing at least two birds with one stone: RINOs would have to admit they have no interest in enforcing any law when it comes to protecting our borders; and the TEA Party continues to be a force to be recorded with!

Majority of U.S. citizens were and are against ObamaCare. And what of it? We are not a “democracy” the resident Captain Obvious will promptly inform us!

Don’t worry. After four more years of 0bamanomics we’re all going to be racing the Mexicans back across the Rio Grande anyway.

Thanks neverdem for the link, thanks Altura Ct. for the topic.

Without the border fence, deportation is irrelevant.
