BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A New York Assemblyman's proposal to prohibit kids under 11 from playing tackle football isn't going over well with some coaches.

In Buffalo Thursday, a handful of youth football leaders and participants joined state Sen. Timothy Kennedy outside a stadium to protest the idea.

Assemblyman Michael Benedetto introduced the legislation last week, telling reporters it's meant to protect children...

I think as more of these mental health studies are concluded with NFL players....there’s going to be a change in public perception...and some school districts will forbid football altogether. Within a decade? Maybe two or three state forbidding football....even at the university level.

You might as well prepare yourself for a world without NFL football within twenty years.

So they want to ban the little kids that aren’t big, strong, or fast enough to provoke serious injury?

Ironically, football may well be the catalyst that breaks Texas from the union.

It is a documented fact that NCAA Women’s Soccer generates more concussions than NCAA Men’s Football.

But...who would ever want to traffic in facts?

football is the opium of the masses.

Reverse Darwinism, too. Big and Stupid is the genotype that succeeds beyond any intellectual attribute...

Yeah, keep the kids from playing rugged sports. Let them get fat and glued to the couch. These politicians (pigs) feeding at the public trough continue to destroy the country.

So you support a ban on football? Perhaps you should move to NYC. Seems your politics mesh pretty well with Bloomberg.

Not quite. “Big” is nearly always an advantage but “stupid” is a always a disadvantage. Not just in football, but everything else.

I think football is an interesting game but I do agree that some people take it too seriously.

All three of my kids played high school sports. My daughter and youngest son played soccer while my older son played football. The two soccer players have both had severe back problems and my daughter is having knee surgery next week. The football player is pain free. Now, I’m not saying that soccer caused their current problems but I don’t think it helped.

Simple fix. Take away helmets or make them lighter like the old day and teach true form tackling instead of the “big hit” so every one can go “Whoaaa!”

The new fancy hi-tech helmets give an idea of invincibility and encourage leading with the head.

Truth be known most injuries are extremity (knee) related.

One of my bride's students broke his neck playing football. There was a benefit for him that had coach Dikta there. Dikta was asked “How do we stop these incidents?”

His answer? Take away the face mask and cut the pads. The kids will learn to stop leading with their head.

Equating politics with contempt for football is kinda’ generalizing, don't you think? It simply has no place in any institution pretending to be a school. It is death to academics, taking resources and promoting mayhem and violence. The US school system is at the bottom of the pile.

Ever listen to the fans? “KILL HIM” is very common. Schools now expel children for having a picture of a pistol, and then send them to a f**kball game to scream “KILL HIM”.

And of course, big, stupid, and given to magical thinking is a phenotype, not a genotype.

As to NYC, it is an open sewer swarming with rabid rats posing as human. As to making PERSONAL COMMENTS about people posting opinions, ad hominem attacks are typical of New Yorkers, especially media types...

Sorry, but nobody is forcing you to watch football. You obviously have a deeper disdain for American culture and want to change it by banning a staple of the culture. That, my friend, is the very essence of liberalism. Violence and mayhem is the epitome of the testosterone and young men. Releasing it under controlled conditions beats the alternative. Or perhaps you believe we should pump them with Ritalin and raise our boys to be fags?
