Why Iran Already Has the Bomb: If NK has the bomb, then for all practical purposes, so does Iran
Tablet ^ | February 14, 2013 | Lee Smith

The White House and President Obama’s supporters insist that he’s making his first trip to Israel next month to assure the Jewish state that if push comes to shove with Iran, he’ll have Israel’s back. But North Korea’s nuclear test Tuesday morning could indicate that it’s already too late for that. If North Korea has the bomb, then for all practical purposes Iran does, too. If that’s so, then Obama’s policy of prevention has failed, and containment—a policy that the president has repeatedly said is not an option—is in fact all Washington has.

If this sounds hyperbolic, consider the history of extensive North Korean-Iranian cooperation on a host of military and defense issues, including ballistic missiles and nuclear development, that dates back to the 1980s. This cooperation includes North Korean sales of technology and arms, like the BM-25, a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching Western Europe; Iran’s Shahab 3 missile is based on North Korea’s Nodong-1 and is able to reach Israel. Iran has a contigent of Iranian weapons engineers and defense officials stationed in North Korea. Meantime, North Korean scientists visit Iran. And last fall, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding regarding scientific, academic, and technological issues.

Given all this, there’s a great deal of concern that, as one senior U.S. official told the New York Times, “the North Koreans are testing for two countries.” The classic case of testing for another country is when the United States tested for the U.K. under the 1958 U.S.–U.K. Mutual Defense Agreement. The situation with the Hermit Kingdom and the Islamic Republic is different: The North Koreans certainly aren’t going to make the cooperation quite so explicit, but they’re also not hiding it...

Its my opinion that N. Korea’s bomb is really deterrence against China.

The Chinese and N. Korean Gov’ts are the most secretive in the world, and neither will benefit by airing their disputes in public. The Kim regime knows that China has spies and allies spread throughout its military, and they could be the target of a coup at any time. China is the enemy within.

America is merely the enemy without, which is much easier to keep an eye on.

As will Egypt. Iran will very soon have tactical nukes. NK is working on miniaturizing their warhead.

Quite a good number of tactical size can be far easier to deliver given the anti missile proficiency of the Israelis. I think we had artillery shells deployed in Europe during the Cold War.

I am by no means certain that NK didn’t test fire an Iranian nuke.

Of course, we don’t have any way to tell just
whose bomb was tested either. Could have been the
Norks, could have been the mullahs probably was
a little of both. The thing is, they know it works
so it’a full speed ahead on the rest of them.

Re: “Iran already has the bomb.”

Yeah, I guess so!

They've been doing research and testing for 30 years.

The Russians and Americans have had nuclear tipped ICBM’s since 1960.

No doubt there are many challenging engineering issues in trying to manufacture and maintain your own weapons.

But the basic technology for designing a nuclear tipped ICBM has been widely known for a long, long time.

And you only need a couple functional missiles to completely change the military equation.

Sure, maybe a missile site can be bombed, or internal missile guidance jammed, or a missile can be shot down, but one mistake, or one episode of bad luck, can result in millions of American deaths or an electromagnetic economic catastrophe.

And, really, who can blame ANY tyrant for seeking a nuclear threat against America?

Saddam was hanged, his sons were murdered, Mubarak has a death sentence, Qaddafi was murdered and stripped naked for public mockery, Syria's Assad would be dead in 20 minutes if he didn't have Iran watching his back.

The Ayatollahs and the Kim family are profoundly evil.

But, guess what, when human beings are threatened with death, they usually make an effort to defend themselves.

There have been enormous and costly efforts to sponsor propaganda to create other issues and foment panic and hysteria to cause the population to focus on those other issues ("SHTF," "TEOTWAWKI," etc.). A little peek at only a little of what they don't want you to focus on. There's much more (e.g., China having at least hundreds of mobiles that can reach anywhere in our USA with accuracy--last word around ten years ago, give or take).

Why Iran Already Has the Bomb: If NK has the bomb, then for all practical purposes, so does Iran

Also, China and Russia are modernizing and increasing their military, including their nuclear forces, yet the TREASONOUS BASTARD usurping the oval office is planning deep cuts in OUR nuclear force! What more proof is needed that he intends to destroy this Country?

Iran could be using N Korea to “test” the nuclear devices there because if Iran tested them on Iranian Territory Israel would step in and bomb them.

Little do so many of those under age 50, who mock the “hysteria” and “paranoia”, the duck and cover, and survival preparations of the Cold War realize, that they will live long enough to learn that America and civilization is again to live under the threat of instant destruction. History isn’t over, the bomb was not just an illusion that quietly disappeared.

Nuclear proliferation was a longterm goal of Mao, who split with the USSR mostly over the Soviet refusal to share nuclear technology.
