Sen. Rand Paul told USA Today Wednesday that he is prepared to put a "hold" on John Brennan's nomination to head the CIA and to filibuster it if necessary until the administration responds to his questions about the use of drones in the United States. The Kentucky Republican said he would do "whatever it takes" to block Brennan's confirmation until he directly answers whether American citizens legally can be killed by drone strikes within U.S. borders.

What say you about a filibuster of John Brennan, if Brennan refuses to answer that and perhaps other questions?

I didn’t care too much for his old man but I’m starting to like this guy more and more. He could be what this country needs in 2016. Guts and standing up to the left.

Never mind "over use of drones," what about Brennan shipping weapons from Benghazi to Syria? It makes the White House directly complicit in Stevens' death (especially if he didn't know what was going on) and makes Zero's "non involvement" during the attack (itself a big deal) a relative non-issue compared to what was really going on, a mere exercise in the usual hypocrisy.

If Brennan was truly running that CIA operation, then Zero knew damned well what was going on and was willing to make Stevens expendable. Worse, if Stevens had found out what the CIA was doing and was going to blow the whistle, it makes the lack of security deliberate, and therefore an act of murder as part of the coverup. Motive, means, and opportunity. AQ would then be doing him a favor.

Rand Paul is going to make a lot of noise, then vote the way he is told.
The man should not be confirmed - ever.
Why is Paul fixated on the drones?

He's not fixated, he's just the only one asking any questions - about drones OR Benghazi. Do you see any other Republicans other than Cruz grilling this administration about anything?

As far as I'm concerned Rand and Ted are the only men left in D.C. The rest of the BOP cut off their own nards and handed them to obongo to put in a jar.

Maybe.
Brennan should not be confirmed - period!
Paul is going on about it, then when he gets answers, votes to confirm anyway.
I would rather have him say - never period!

“Why isn’t ANYONE talking about the fact that Brennan is a converted Muslim???”

I wonder if Paul is using “drones” partially as cover for just such an objection.

Dittoes here!

I may not agree with everything Rand stands for, but at least he seems at the moment to have an actual SPINE and will stand up for what he belives in...

I think he’s using the drones to embarrass him and shame him and hopefully get Democrat votes against his nomination. I dont think he’d do himself favors asking sensitive questions of the operations he was in charge of - like guns for jihadists - because the Democrats will close ranks but the drones is an issue the Democrats ought to have a problem with. A great political ploy this by Rand.

Rand Paul doesn't believe obama or any other president has the power to kill Americans anywhere, especially not here in country, without due process in our judicial system as guaranteed by the Constitution.

Brennan, and therefore obama, is advancing the idea that obama does have that power, via drone strikes this time, which is a direct violation of our Constitution.

I'll give him this. Rand Paul is the guy consistently standing up for the Constitution, regardless of who if any stands up with him, and by standing for the Constitution, he's standing up for every one of us.

This is no mere political ploy.

This is Rand Paul being true to America AND standing up for what he believes in.

I hope everyone who reads this thread will take the time to read this article:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2988970/posts?page=35#35

From the article about Rand Paul's foreign policy speech:
“Proxy war was the heart of a successful containment policy,” said Smith. “Containment was a bloody, active affair.”

“From looking at Sen. Paul’s speech, we’re not quite talking about the same ideas of containment,” Smith added. “What containment means for him is the same as what it means for the most of the commentariat and probably most of the Obama administration. ‘Containment’ just means anything but the use of military force.”

*******

It was infuriating to me to hear Rand Paul use the name Reagan. Reagan believed in Peace through Strength and that is why Iran released the 52 Americans they held hostage for 444 days the minute Reagan was elected! They knew he wouldn't think twice about using military force, something Ron Paul or Rand Paul would never do!
