First on CNN: NRA charges Obama’s efforts will lead to gun confiscation (Memo confirms NRA claim)
cnn ^ | 2/13/2013 | Mark Preston

Posted on 02/13/2013 9:53:11 AM PST by tobyhill

The National Rifle Association will assert that President Barack Obama’s attempt to enact new gun control laws will result in the “confiscation” of people’s firearms in a new web video scheduled to run in five states and the District of Columbia.

The video will go online around the time Obama begins delivering his State of the Union address, in which he is expected to mention his effort to reduce gun violence through legislative means.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told CNN that the organization based its warning on what he said is a Justice Department document, “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies,” that was written in January and given to the NRA.

A Justice Department spokeswoman told CNN that she couldn’t immediately authenticate the document, but did confirm that Greg Ridgeway, whose name appears on it, is currently deputy director of the National Institute of Justice, which is the DOJ’s research arm.

“This internal Justice Department memo says ‘an assault weapons ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence,’ ” NRA’s chief lobbyist Chris Cox says in the video that was provided to CNN before it aired online. “Unlikely, that is, unless it comes with something else. Obama’s experts say that a gun ban, like the one being debated right now in Congress, will not work without mandatory ‘gun buybacks and not exemptions.’ ”

Loved your post.

Andrew Cuomo owns this travisty of the Federal Constitution Second Amendment

It was done late at night , a result of backroom construction
with the full complicity of the Democratic controlled State Senate .
It was done in “EMERGENCY SESSION “ , .. but NO EMERGENCY EXISTS !!
No discussion , no opposition allowed , rammed through by Democratic leaders
within 20 minutes !
The only opposition , discussion occured in the State Legislative House .

The Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association stated
the Sheriff’s and police thusly :
“ ... “assault weapons,” which are banned under the new legislation if they have 1 military-type feature, were responsible for 5 out of 769 homicides in New York last year or .007% – hardly a public safety crisis for our state.
The Albany County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted 4 cases involving assault weapons last year none of which involved their use in the commission of a crime
and a recent FBI report showed that hammers and clubs were responsible for more deaths than rifles and shotguns ..
The SCDSPBA believes this is absurd, serves no public safety interest in the slightest,
and crosses the proverbial line from reasonable restrictions on gun ownership
to outright harassment of law-abiding gun owners.
( Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association )

Andrew Cuomo owns this crap legislation just so that he will be noticed
for the Presidential elections of 2016 !
That was “the emergency “~ his notariety !

Restated for simplicity :” “assault weapons,” which are banned under the new legislation if they have 1 military-type feature, were responsible for 5 out of 769 homicides in New York last year or .007% – hardly a public safety crisis for our state.”

The New York law on firearms statewide was motivated by
“.007% – hardly a public safety crisis for our state. “

You violate the Federal Constitution for .007 % ?
There are no mpore pressing problems for the State ?
You must be taking publicity lessons from Schumer !!
Governor Andrew Cuomo ,..you are a Clown !

I'd be willing to bet that a lot more people trust the NRA over CNN.

But there are a lot of people out there that will believe the lies and they voted for Zero twice.

See, that’s the whole point of 0bama being shown shooting, and Kerry “gettin’ a huntin’ license here”, etc -

they are trying to cover up their end goal.

Total confiscation is the end goal,
incrementalism is the means,

and we can either help them by “compromise”,
or just say “no”.

The recent gun and ammo “buyup” is not a society that fears confiscation,

it is an indicator of a society getting ready to go to war.

About that picture... the shooter is wearing his watch on his left wrist. Don’t lefties wear watches on their right wrists?

Some have said that there has never been any confiscation of guns in the US, but I remember differently.

Both New York City and Washington DC both passed registration laws, on Nields's template, while swearing up and down that they were NOT going to confiscate any weapons, they needed the information for other reasons, that the opponents of registration were being unreasonable and frankly hysterical.

They waited about two years and then sent police door-to-door. One knock, no notice, on-demand surrender your weapon now or go to jail now.

That's how they did it.

I saw two movies not long back.

VIVA ZAPATA, in which the people win a revolution and turn in their guns, then the army attacks.

THE ADVENTURERS in which the same thing happens.

NEVER TURN IN YOUR GUNS!

The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country.

Well, Feinstein et al certainly screwed up on that one. Just try to buy a handgun right now -- they have been selling like "they're going out of style". Even my Dem ex-wife is getting one!

The second problem is to get them all registered.

That will be a huge problem. Most gun owners know that registration will lead to confiscation, and those that don't certainly will when the gun-grabbers get serious about that phase. Even the docile Canadians didn't go for that one.....

The Scots buried their swords when the English started coming after their weapons. Gun-owners will know when it is time to buy strong waterproof bags.....

There is mandatory real-estate buy-back, though — eminent domain.

I have a niece who LOVES living in California because of all the socialism,
but, just a while back, she wanted me to check on the availability of a handgun at a local shop (in another state).

Sorry, honey. Not being able to buy a handgun kinda goes with the territory.

they must have go so over worked and pissed ff blocking pro gun laws and pro 2nd amendment that they have now turned off comments thus making it look at the majority of Americans want guns banned.

What the elft does too is always and I mean always, Powell, Geraldo and the mindless cult of obama , they all pretend to be a republican but rhe GOP has gone extreme, or they go hunting and thye support this, or they don;t need two mags to go hunting, or they come form a hunting pro gun family and trust this clown in the white house to put these new laws into place.

yet again the left strikes down debate, censors, opposing views and then pretend to be on our side but saying our side has gone too far.

Well two can play thta game.
I voted for obama, I trusted him to work in the middle and get things done for the love of the country but he;s gone radical extreme left, so much so he;s now looking like a socialist,.

My family have always been there for the left, we always marched and gave money but obama’s agenda is hurting my family and everyone I know

How is that seeing as we both can play this game

After seeing the spontaneous support for the boycott by pro-2nd Amendment exhibitors and supporters of the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show, I think this kind of boycott of NY could work.

It should also be extended to anybody from the government agencies that have been buying up all the guns and ammo to keep it out of the hands of the citizens.

I don't trust DHS with taxpayer-provided automatic weapons, or anybody else working for Eric Holder, for that matter.

eminent domain is a taking for a public use and after hearing and a process.

There is no “taking just to detroy”.

The memo draws on comparing this to austrailia where there is no tradition of individual rights. (remember the whole continent was essentially an exile jail)

This harkens back to the king confiscating wealth for his own profit.

John Kerry is secretary of state.

Obama has his sigts on the UN SMALL ARMS TREATY

NOT any law or congress.

If Kerry under obama’s direction signs the treaty, THE TREATY IS THE LAW OF THE LAND REGARDLESS OF CONSTITUTION until (and if) the senate rejects it.

Obama with ONE SIGNATURE bypasses two entire branches of government.

THE END.

I pretty much agree. However, large parts of the American colonies were also "an exile jail". A German guy I used to know claimed that the reason that we eat mostly with the fork is because many of the early denizens were not allowed to have knives. ;>)

I think the 'taking by the king' was stomped out by the Magna Carta.
