Grossman officially announces gubernetorial campaign (NJ GOP Primary challenge to Christie!)

ATLANTIC CITY – Somers Point attorney Seth Grossman formally announced his campaign for governor today, saying Gov. Chris Christie has been wrongly perceived as conservative.

“He’s been running New Jersey like a Newark ward leader,” Grossman said.

Grossman, who seeks the Republican nomination, said he wants to challenge the Republican establishment by running conservative candidates across the state.

He announced his candidacy with about a half-dozen supporters at a barren lot off of Rhode Island Avenue, about a block from Revel casino.

Grossman has opposed the tax incentives that allowed Revel to finish construction, and has said that city residents should have been able to vote on the tax break.

Grossman plans a later event in Newark, near the Red Bulls Arena. Harrison, Essex County, borrowed $39.4 million to help construct the $200 million structure that opened in 2010. But when secondary development failed to happen during the fiscal crisis, the town cut services, raised taxes and watched as its credit rating spiraled downward, raising borrowing costs.

I never heard of this guy, but I'm glad to see someone step up and challenge Christie.

Christie revealed himself as the opportunist he is when he posed with obozo. The sooner we are rid of him the better.

Wondered when we would see this year's Chris Daggett.

Very bold of him to take such a "conservative" stand against tax incentives for growth.

Is there any way a more conservative candidate could beat Christie in the primaries and not lose to any Democrat running against him in the general?

I hear your point, but the comparison to Daggett is way off. This guy does have some Conservative credibility in his past and we're talking about a GOP Primary challenge.

I think its doubtful but I’ll still support the more conservative candidate in the primary and I will not be donating anything to Christie at any point....even during the general.

In this particular case Christie is probably very happy. He knows he is not going to lose a primary challenge to this guy, and he can then claim during the general election that he's a true "moderate" as evidenced by the fact that right wingers tried to defeat him in the GOP primaries. In a blue state like New Jersey that just helps him.

I know essentially nothing about NJ politics and *absolutely* nothing about Mr Grossman. However, seeing this headline the very first thought that came to my mind was "the RATS probably have some falsehood on Grossman that they can use,at the right time,to destroy him.So they'll secretly fund him to the hilt and when he knocks Christie out they'll spring it on him".

You folks from NJ feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I can’t speak for this guy’s credibility but the way Christie needs to be opposed is two pronged.

A conservative candidate for the primary and a conservative candidate for the general election.

Egos need to be left at the door.

Principles are more important than personalities.

Conservatives should never vote for RINO’s again.

Maybe he could follow the Mayor Schundler paradigm. Wait for Christie to be arrested on corruption charges, then run on economic issues....

“Wrongly perceived as conservative”, now that’s a nice way to put it. The problem is that such a list is legion. The American people can’t understand much of anything unless it’s “free”, and they don’t understand that either.

Well, New Jersey residents who are conservatives and support the Second Amendment can use the threat of supporting this guy as a lever to move Christie on the flood of anti-Second Amendment bills recently released by the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee.

Christie can either veto them openly or let them die on his desk.

Christie is ambivalent on the Second Amendment. Its a very important issue here to gun owners.
