OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Eight people were arrested Monday at a construction site for the Keystone XL oil pipeline in central Oklahoma, including one man who locked himself to a crane-like piece of machinery, authorities said.

The two women and six men were arrested on trespassing complaints at the site near the town of Schoolton, Seminole County sheriff's Chief Deputy Chris Conn said. On woman also was cited for resisting arrest. None of their names has been released.

"We had several individuals on private property who refused to leave, and they were arrested for trespassing," Conn said. "One individual was chained to some equipment ... his wrists were chained together."

The organizers, Protesters from the Great Plains Tar Sands Resistance, cited environmental concerns and the oil extraction's impact on indigenous people as the reason for their protest.

I understand the issue.......

Arrest them...charge them. This kind of crap has been going on for years....

My point was....no one needs to be raining fire down on them....for basically "peacefully" protesting.

I’d say the first step is simply to leave them chained there and lock the site.”

I agree and think I would also post someone in a warm, comfortable vehicle at the site to make sure that no one tries to free him. It can get pretty nasty in parts of Oklahoma at times.

>> If I peacefully protest bla bla bla yadda yadda

Uh, what part of PRIVATE PROPERTY don’t you get?

If you drag your smelly hippie ass onto MY property to protest ANYTHING, you’re risking a bullet in the head.

I don’t give a damn how self-righteous or “entitled” you perceive yourself or your cause to be.

>> I could get them free real quick with a chainsaw and not damage the chain or lock!

Then again, you may not want that chain and lock hanging from your equipment.

An acetylene cutting torch used as near as possible to the chained body part would do the trick.

Damn shame that a writer for the major daily paper in the new oil capital of the world (Houston) doesn’t know what a sideboom Caterpillar tractor is and how it’s used in pipeline construction.

Haven’t these indigenous people heard of casinos?

and what if I cart a gun for Obama in his building of the North African caliphate for the MB?

I’ll probably be exempt.

Even thought its against America’s interests.

Houston may be the oil capital but it sure isn’t oilfield. We have people in the business here now who have never seen the oilfield. Just city people in just another 8 to 5 job.

I love that on my drove home from Houston each day I pass about 2 dozen oil wells, about the same in horse and at least twice as many cows.

Much of the area is given over to concrete and buildings, but fortunately not all of it.

My daughter is a Sheriff deputy in Nacogdoches and dealt with this scum for a couple of weeks. She arrested them daily for trespass and some for assault. They travel all over to do this. They defecated on site and sometimes threw it. Trash was everywhere. Then they complained the pipeline hurt the trees. In Ok. it seems to hurt the Indians. In Kansas, I'm sure it will be the crops. I don't know how much it cost to have 4-5 deputies out there ever day, but she even made overtime. Why they aren't liable for the costs,I don't know. They should arrest them for a week or so to keep them occupied.

I’d like to see them try to show up at the North Dakota oil tent cities....

I'd like to see them try to take the huge lease and royalty checks away from the indigenous people who live in the Bakken.

I know decent ordinary enrolled tribal members who have a half-dozen wells. Worth tens of millions of dollars over the years...more power to 'em!

With you on that one. You shut down work on MY property you are taking food from the mouth of MY family.

It is no different from or better than theft.

Steal from me and mine at your own peril.
