Graham: I’ll put a hold on Hagel, Brennan until the White House coughs up Benghazi info

Lindsey Graham threatened to block the confirmations of both Chuck Hagel and John Brennan yesterday on Face the Nation, after last week's hearings on the Benghazi attack forced unanswered questions to the surface --- and the White House provided no answers. Graham told Bob Schieffer that he would place a hold on both candidates and promised "No confirmation without information," which would force Harry Reid to attempt a floor-vote override:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday threatened to hold President Obama’s nominees to head the CIA and Defense department unless the administration provides him with more answers on the response to the Benghazi Consulate attack.

“I don’t think we should allow [John] Brennan to go forward for the CIA directorship, [former Sen. Chuck] Hagel [R-Neb.] to be confirmed secretary of Defense until the White House gives us an accounting,” said Graham on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “Did the White House ever pick up the phone and call anyone in the Libyan government to help these folks?”

Specifically, Graham wants an accounting of Barack Obama’a actions on the night in question:

Graham said a special response team had been deployed from Tripoli to Benghazi the night of the attack to provide assistance but was held up by Libyan officials at the airport. Graham said he wanted to know if Obama intervened and contacted Libyan authorities to allow the rescue team to head to the consulate.

“Did the president ever pick up the phone and call the Libyan government and say let those people out of the airport, they need to get to the annex to protect our people under siege?,” he asked.

“We know nothing about what the president did during the night of Sept. 11 during a night of national crisis,” said Graham.

Graham said that if Obama had called he believes American lives could have been saved. He added that if Obama had called and Libyan officials “blew him off,” that would hurt their ability to receive foreign aid in the future.

“I don’t know what the president did that evening, I don’t know if he called anyone,” Graham said. “This was incredibly mismanaged. What we know now seems to be a very disengaged president.”

Graham insists that he’s not talking about a filibuster, but a hold. That acts much like a filibuster, but it takes up a lot of floor time, and it can delay other business. Graham’s hold could be defeated, but given the reason for it — a lack of cooperation from the White House rather than the flaws of the nominees themselves — Graham might be able to keep enough Republicans in his corner to make it stick.

The most intimidating member of Congress, no doubt. Perhaps he’ll hold his breath until his face turns blue.

Very good move.

This is how to do things. Do not simply interfere.

Push.

Excellent! I dont care about Graham’s less than stellar track record...if he can get this thing moving, he’s made up for it. Graham is asking the right questions and doing so aggressively.

Every 6 years like clock work, he seems to take his job seriously right before election and South Carolinians eat it up and put him back in his senate seat. Hopefully they won’t fall for his fakiness this round.

When pansy Graham is done with that...he can continue with Hagel's rants about Israel (caught on tape) and John Brennan's conversion to Islam.

Should be good to derail the entire process.

Sometimes Lindsey gets the bear...

They need to recall petraeus, put him under oath, and grill him over hot coals.

Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

Some posters here have strongly criticized Graham in the past, but give the guy credit this time! He is the strongest voice for exposing the corruption of the 0 administration at this point. What more can he do?

I wish more senators would join him. He may be having a good effect, because even the other media are beginning to listen.

LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman's comment: "Great. In a business, Senator Graham would be fired for obstructionism. Deliberating holding up the government? Blackmail?"

When prominent business people like Hoffman can't even understand elementary civics, much less the obfuscation by the Administration that led to the threatened hold, then what hope is there for a return to a republican form of government?

Hoffman seems to be suggesting that Obama's opponents are just "haters" who are trying to stop the great man from doing his work. That may be the MSNBC line, but we require our business leaders to know better.

While most people focus on the news that Obama was AWOL that evening, the fact of the matter is Obama couldn’t respond with force for fear he would out himself in another ILLEGAL international gun running operation this time in the midst of the Arab Spring revolts.

Recall the libs screaming from the rafters regarding Iran Contra? Time for repubbies to start screaming about Benghazi gun running to islamic militant groups.

..... an accounting of Barack Obama’a actions on the night in question ....

Let's make that "every night." If only one reporter were to do a "Day In The Life of" article on Barry!

What we are all politically correctly pirouetting around is that this fellow most certainly leads a secret life. E.G., for 2 years a certain Mr. Reggie Love was a resident of the WH. He and the POTUS spent long days and nights "sequestered" in a sort of playroom equipped with multiple TV's cabled to ESPN channels. Their only visitor, Valerie Jarrett with memos, scripts, hot towels, and snacks. Their occasional breaks while the room was cleaned: shooting hoops in the WH gym. This unusual executive style somehow escaped the notice of the MSM.

But there is something bigger than the Reggie Love Playroom Secret. The Dirty Little Secret of the Administration is that the present Chief Executive does nothing; NOTHING; without being instructed and choreographed. In actuality, this means he does nothing for days on end while awaiting instructions, except watch television and read occasional memos handed to him by Valerie Jarrett.

At the beginning of the 2012 campaign, Mr. Reggie Love surfaced ... or was surfaced ... in porn videos of a non-heterosexual nature made some years ago. He was immediately moved out of town ... with a handsome stipend/etc. Never mentioned again. Today, you can barely find this guy on the WEB.
Who and what is, or was, Reggie Love?

Why is where the POTUS was on Benghazi Night such an unfathomable mystery? We have come to a fork in the road. We cannot find out more about Benghazi without finding out more about Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. (or II).

Who and What is the POTUS?

How does jug-ears (if in fact he is a human being) sleep at night knowing he did NOTHING or did I answer my own question? And where are all the survivors? They should be called to testify, too.

How does the minority party put a “hold” on anything?

If it goes to a floor vote, doesn’t Reid have the votes to pass?
